Do basketball players wear some sort of light pads over their hip areas?  They certainly oughta given the activity of the game, the significant chance of falling hard on hip or tush.

FIBA has been streaming all the Senegal games online for free.  The feed is pretty good.

Has anyone seen any of the games?  How does Mo look?  How is he being used?  Is he any heavier/stronger?  What is he doing that's effective?  Thanks.

The real value is the experience and the opportunity to play alongside an NBA player.  Add to that the honor of playing for one's country and Mo has had a very good summer.  The experience alone will make him a more effective and focused player.

Senegal in a tight one with Philippines right now.  They were up early then were spanked in the 2nd quarter 24-5 but have clawed back.  Big Mo had a big hand in the comeback and they are now down 1, 62-61 with just over two minutes to go.

Thanks for the info/updates, gents.  I hope that Mo gets a sense of top competition and his potential, then comes back and rips the MAC.

I didn't get to see any of it, but Senegal loses in OT, Mo finishes with 13 points, all coming in the 4q and OT.

FIBA tiebreakers are difficult to find, but I believe it goes head-to-head games in a 2 team tie (not applicable here), but in a 3 team tie it goes by points scored/points allowed in the head-to-head matchups.

If that is true, Senegal is guaranteed to move on to the 16 team tournament, and will most likely face Spain.  However, if Puerto Rico can beat Croatia at noon, and not blow them out (winning by 14 or less should do it), Senegal could get the 3 seed and move to the #2 team in Spain's pod which is Brazil.

Good thing we have practice scouring and deciphering MAC tiebreakers.

This experience has to be an amazing one for Maurice. He's going to come back to campus and when he faces someone like Tree or sees Tava driving down the lane he's going to smile knowing that it's not as good of competition as he faced in FIBA. I stand by it that we have the best first four players in the league. No team in our league has a better four. Toledo might be deeper and Kent is solid but with Bean, Stevie, Tony and Mo, we are the best.

Croatia wins, which means Senegal will play Spain (!) Saturday night in the round of 16.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Ndour

It should be added to.

He is now. Stevie just posted a picture with him in the convo to instagram saying he's glad to have him back.

Great article from Arkley on Ndour's trip oversees: http://www.athensohiotoday.com/sports/ohiouniversity/ndou...

I think the ending is my favorite part.

Phillips said he’s “going to lean pretty hard” on Ndour on the floor, and try to use him at a number of different spots in the lineup — from center to small forward to perhaps even as an off-guard.

Like I said elsewhere - 6'9" monster slasher when we have couple other bigs on the court at the same time.

Having a hard time wrapping my head around Ndour in that role. But it could certainly pose some match-up nightmares. Just not sure if his ball handling skills are good enough...

Before Ndour arrived at Ohio, I remember watching a youtube video of him doing some simple basketball drills in Japan. At one point, he was dribbling basketballs in both hands at the same time. Not a uncommon drill, but for a guy his size he looked really comfortable doing it.

From The Post today
“I’ve been around some players that have played in the NBA, his skillset is extremely unique,” Phillips said. “I’m having a blast trying to figure out how we can use him.”
I am really excited to see how Saul uses him this year.

Whether he can truly play "off-guard" or not is one thing, but there is no denying he has a unique blend of skills considering his size & athleticism.

Maybe not, but playing at the 3, he could be a match-up nightmare for a number of teams.

This is one thing that I like about Saul, noticed it in some of his early remarks -- he's a player's coach and will adapt "his system" to the talent on hand. Go OHIO!
