Maurice was selected to the Senegal national squad. They start play August 30 against Greece; will also face Croatia, Puerto Rico, Argentina, & Philippines in group play.

With the soccer World Cup going on right now, here's a fun fact: in their only appearance in 2002, Senegal made the quarterfinals, losing in extra time to Turkey. Don't know if this Senegal's first basketball World Cup appearance, but they might make a deep run themselves, who knows?

Great opportunity for him to play against a high level of competition. Hopefully he gets some minutes.

Aside from Argentina, that's not a very scary group. Might sneak out a win.

Argentina will have Manu Ginobili, while Puerto Rico has 3 current/former NBA players. First game will be key to psyche.

There's an Alex Abreu/Team Puerto Rico/failed drug test joke to make there if somebody wants to grab the low hanging fruit.

FIBA tournament website says ESPN holds the rights to all of their events until 2015. Tourney slated to run late August to mid-September if I read it correctly.

If the tourney is slated to run late August to mid-September, how does that affect his eligibility?  He will miss almost  2 months of the fall semester.

He would miss some school, I guess.  But, late August to mid September seems more like 2-3 WEEKS not 2 months doesn't it?

the FIBA World Cup begins 8/30/14 and the final game is on 9/14/13. The first day of classes for Fall Semester is 8/25/14. Maurice will miss 3 weeks of classes, at most.

I found two articles written in French about NDOUR. I searched the articles on google and got the translated versions... For the most part the google translation made sense. Sorry for the messy links.

Some repeat background info for us but also some interesting quotes from both him and his coach. I did find it interesting that NDOUR said he wants to increase his weight. In a tournament like this where he is going up against a lot of older professional players, I would imagine the weight thing is more noticable than in college where he is clearly a very athletic and sizable player.

Senegalese team was in the news because the US team planned a scrimmage against Senegal but has canceled due to Ebola.

ESPN ranked all 24 teams at World Cup and Senegal was #23.  Write up mentioned that NBA scouts would be taking a look at Maurice, especially if he can get on the floor, which means he would be outplaying some of the older more established players.

N'Dour got some solid playing time. A couple rebs and a steal. Senegal getting trounced though.

Great experience for N'Dour!

Spent second quarter guarding an NBA first round draft pick.  Tough to evaluate him on the offensive end, because they have an offense that looks like a middle school one.
