Let me see if I read the recap correctly. New-improved Saul-Ball trailed a D-3 team by 14 in a basketball game?

What is going to happen when they play teams like Belmont?

Hopefully we won't be limited to 8 scholarship players when we play Belmont

"The secret is to have eight great players and four others who will cheer like crazy."
Jerry Tarkanian

Edit/Add To be clear, I don't believe we have 8 great players... 7, sure. 8? Nope.

The Detroit Lions went 4-0 in the preseason before going 0-16 in the regular season. That is about how much stock I put into preseason college basketball.

Let me see if I read some of this fan base correctly. Ohio is on the third coach and third new system in three years and won an exhibition game while clearly tinkering with lineups and plays. And they did it against a team whose coach said they were going to treat it like a regular season game.

EVERYBODY PANIC! Saul sucks!!

I don't know what people are expecting this year, but it's pretty clear that we'll have even more whiners and naysayers than usual.

How about letting the new coach have a couple of years of recruiting and coaching in the MAC before slamming him and the team?

BINGO! Miami lost their exhibition, and Cincinnati barely scraped by in theirs. Both are probably going to be just fine this year.

Belmont is going to blow us out.

But, just remember that Groce taught us that November, December, and January are really just practice/prep months. February you get grooving. And March you win.

Could be the same this year with new coaches, new offense, new defense, freshmen trying to fill Nick Kellog's shoes, Ndour trying to learn how to be the man, the consistently inconsistent Bean Willis, the offense not fitting Campbell, and etc.

I guess Akron is going to be terrible, too, because the Zips were probably even less impressive in their exhibition.

It's always good to base expectations on a ten minute span of a team's first exhibition game. How will we ever compete with Belmont.

this is nothing new... we expect that Akron will be embarrassing out of conference, then somehow find their s*** during the conference season. No one coaches for February like Dambrot.

There's some guy we all know about with the last name of Groce that did a pretty solid job of coaching for February & March.

I wouldn't say he coached so much for February and March as he was just sometimes wildly inconsistent in how the team would play game to game. Even in our sweet 16 year, where we took Louisville to the wire in December, we had a couple headscratchers in the conf season. Dambrot seems more in the Jim Christian mold. He's probably always going to win the games he's supposed to win, but it seems that he can't do anything as far as knocking off "power" teams or putting together any type of non-conf resume. And they've generally been embarrassed in the postseason.

This seems like a wildly inaccurate generalization. He won in the first round of the tournament last year against the #21 team in the nation, Oklahoma. Beat Notre Dame last year as well, though it think it was a down year for them.

What does you being from out of state have to do with anything. Lots of us are from out of state.

new improved does not mean you automatically get to retool you rteam. You still have to play with guys who are on their 3rd coach.

More to say but that is a start

I truly couldn't care less about an essentially meaningless non conference game against Belmont. The only way we make it to March Madness is beating MAC teams, particularly at tourney time. A win over Belmont would do next to nothing for us as far as getting an invite to the big dance. A win over Wichita would be huge because that would have national relevance, but even that would likely only get us 15 minutes of attention.

After the a55-kicking the Bobcats endured on ESPN at Belmont a win against them would be better than another a55-beating. Most people would see it that way. A few might say "thank you sir, my I have another" but not many.

Belmont doesn't have JJ Mann or Ian Clark any more. An above average MAC program should be able to beat them now.

Wow, my apology. My reading comprehension is lacking. I misread Dambrot for Saul.

So it's fair to judge the 2014-15 Ohio Bobcats and their future opponent Belmont based off an exhibition game and also based off a game played two seasons ago where most of the players for both teams are no longer present? Ok.

Think there's panic here, how about in Memphis after they lost their exhibition to Christian Brothers University?
