Boone, NC, is a college town along the lines of Athens. Wish we had them in the MAC, but travel wouldn't work too well for them going north in the winter.
Quite a bit bigger than Athens and a big winter tourist area with ski resorts and the like. Their stadium is really slick looking built into the side of the mountains. And believe it or not, they have an 18 hole golf course. Nice town as is neighboring Blowing Rock.

And as a side note, just as many OU fans like to be referred to as Ohio, our opponent on Saturday is pronounced Appa Latchin State.
Not trying to be picky, but the Geographer in me can't let this go ;)

Boone, NC 17,122
Athens, Oh 23,832
Watauga County, NC 51,079
Athens County, OH 64,757

I will not argue about the tourist attraction of the area though ;)
Also, I will definitely refer to them the way they want to be referred too!

Yes, I know, this reply was of great importance! lol

If we win I'll refer to them the way they want to be referenced. Should they emerge victorious, I might choose some more...um...lets say "colorful" language.

In this case, the numbers are misleading. Anyone who visits Athens and Boone will without a doubt tell you that Boone is much "larger" than Athens. Boone simply has more of everything except perhaps uptown bars.

Here's a question -- do we know if this one has a return game at App State next year? If it were a Saturday, that would be a nice little road trip.

That's an interesting point Steveland. On one hand many posters want to distance themselves from the party school image and rankings and on the other hand, that's all they can talk about in preparation for their drives back to Athens for various games.

If I elect to breed.
My child will go to one of the following schools in the below order:

1. Ohio University
2. West Point
3. Other Military Academy
4. Washington & Lee
5. Appalachian State
6. Whatever college they want.

Fortunately my wife does not want to breed.

Go Bobcats!!!

that's a choice. My 4 boys have been and continue to be really exceptional humans that are entertaining and a great source of love and understanding. All are so different but have a common thread of aspiration and excellence that I adore

While they beg to be called ski resorts. Anyone that skis knows them only as hills. Closest ski resorts are in wva.

Having spent my entire life in the region, I refuse to use the currently politically correct soft a in Appalachian. Schooling in Bellaire ingrained the hard a.
My first boss in radio (he's from Iowa) kept trying to correct my pronunciation of Appalachia. Kept insisting it was Appalayshia. I always told him it's like "I'll throw that apple at chya." It took him nearly 20 years, but he finally agreed I was right.

I genuinely enjoy regional-based snobbery. This post made me smile.

That had to be some sort of glitch. I'm glad it went to 12 or I'd be opening up an account to place my first ever online bet.

Excellent pre game look. I love having Russ and all the little things he adds to the program. Thinking about how sorry it was in 2008 when we relied on Warren for our media. Big kudos and conrats on the advancement of our media. Keep up the great work.

I would be remiss if I did not mention how my blood boils to watch the shooter behind Russ .....grrrrr. how can you have a kid shoot so many shots and not refine the shot? hands, release, follow through. I don't know why anyone would waste time throwing a kid a ball and bot fixing things. Grrrrrrrr. Just wasting time perfecting mistakes.

-12 is a lock. I think that even if we are down after first half due to gel not gelling yet we finish +16 or more.
