Delaware might end up being our best non-conference win after last night.

In Wednesday's MAC-Horizon challenge the MAC goes 3-1 with Ohio's home loss the lone MAC defeat. UT with the best win, winning on the road when Oakland executes a nice inbound play for the possible game winner that misses from 2 feet. Ball St. wins at winless Detroit. And CMU defeats Valpo (I know, formerly of the Horizon, presently of the Missouri Valley).

All MAC teams but Eastern play on Saturday and several have tough match-ups.

I predict only two victories Saturday; your thoughts?
YSU vs Western ; Western KY vs Buffs ; CMU vs #10 Creighton;
Miami vs Davidson ; CSU vs Kent ; NIU vs Monmouth;
Northern Iowa vs Rockets ; T'hurd vs Bobcats ; Zips vs N. KY

I see 3-4 wins: Zips over NKU, NIU over Monmouth, OU over Marshall.

The fourth comes from either Tol over N. Iowa or Kent over Cleveland State.

Ali has won his appeal and is now eligible.

I don’t think I’ve seen the NCAA follow through with any of its original denials outside of RaeQuan Battle. Which makes no sense now.

The lawsuit filed by Attorney General Yost and several other states, no doubt helped with this decision. The NCAA has not fared well in the area of rules limiting transfers with the courts. Hence, we have the transfer portal, evidently, law makers and public officials, see having only one free transfer as "restrictive".

I would hope not. Delaware was projected tie for 5th with Towson in the Colonial Conference. Charleston, UNCW, Drexel and Hofstra all projected in top four. The MAC should be better than the Colonial, Horizon and A-Sun.

Delaware’s current NET is 84 and our only Quad 3 win (we don’t have any Quad 1 and 2 opponents). Only Hofstra’s is higher at 51 out of the CAA schools. The highest MAC Net ranking currently is Toledo at 95. We’re 138. The CAA right now as a whole has more Quad 1 and 2 wins. It’s been better than the MAC this season.

Only two MAC wins today (12/9) going into night games: OU vs. Marshall and Akron at NKU.

Toledo held on at home against Northern Iowa, Kent took down Cleveland State. Bummer game was NIU blowing big first half lead and lost to Monmouth.

Toledo seems to be a different team w/Cochran now in the starting lineup.

6-2 "power forward" with 12 boards today to go with 19 points.

Akron led for most of the game @ NKU. Lost the lead with about 6 minutes left but a dunk from Freeman with seconds left sealed the win.

Freeman very efficient and had a double double. Ali Ali had 13 pts with 5 assists and 6 turns.

I really kind of adore the education day games. Get a couple thousand screaming elementary school kids in during the day for a field trip. Texas A&M-Commerce vs Northern Colorado treated the kids to a double OT thriller with the home team coming out on top. This is so great. https://twitter.com/tamucmbb/status/1734303866357678141

Toledo needed a monster game from Cochran (33 points) to barely (88-87) get by Marshall, which nearly pulled it out in the final minute.

Chicago State beat #25 Northwestern last night. For those panicking over our losses and that we’re in a sad state, there have been far worse this year all things considered.

Other "bad" losses are totally irrelevant to Ohio basketball. Being a member of the MAC, we do not have the luxury to blow off a couple "bad" losses. To date we have defeated teams that are 6-5, 5-6, 0-10, 3-9 and 7-3. 5-4 at this stage is failure. 7-2 is the worst-case scenario we should be in.

Ah, yes. l forgot how prominent the MAC is, as an at-large/multiple bid conference. That’s just my bad….outside of pride, our non-conference record is borderline meaningless.

The teams we’ve lost to are 8-3, 9-2, 6-5, and 3-7. The Marshall loss shouldn’t have happened, you got me there. Each loss we’ve beaten ourselves and have also been without Miles/AJB clearly isn’t 100%. If we were 5-4 full strength, I’d be a little worried heading into conference play.

Austin Peay is currently 6-6 and Davidson is 7-3. There’s an opportunity to finish the non-conference on a high note at 8-4 if we’re healthy.

Isn't pride the whole point? Aren't all sports meaningless outside of pride.

That was a counter to not having the luxury to blow off a couple of bad losses, as if they're making or breaking our season as a one-bid league team.

Wins, of some form, are in the end what makes or breaks your season.

Until the MAC receives an at-large bid; a non-conference schedule doesn’t make or break a season at this level.

And for the MAC to get at-large bids, something it used to do, Ohio and other MAC schools have to get back to winning more of its non-conference games.

We are long removed from that era my man and I give it less than a % chance of coming back. There are too many variables and the NCAA loves punishing mid-majors for not winning its conference tourney.

Perfect example — 15/16 Monmouth team. Non-conference wins against USC, UCLA, Rutgers, Georgetown, and #17 Notre Dame. Won the MAAC regular season but lost in the tourney finals to Iona — by 3. 28-8 overall. Monmouth’s “bench mob” alone should have gotten them in from an entertainment and marketing perspective that season.

Point being — our season is not doom and gloom because we lost to GW, Cleveland State, and YSU. The Marshall loss sucks but even if we were undefeated right now, an at-large bid is not looming in our favor. Let’s enjoy the season, this is still a good team capable of getting it done in the MAC at full strength.
