The Chandler Thomas fiasco pretty much sums up the year. At this point, a wasted scholarship until proven otherwise.
I just don't get the lack of communication at this point. Seems like we heard all about his transfer and then the issues with the paperwork. Now? It's like he's not even on the team.
Edit: I just saw where he is a grad student, so I assume he has one to play one, since he has also been an undergrad transfer as well.
I think the one year only is correct. If he had not filled the scholarship it likely would have just gone un-filled for this year only.

Wadley started several games early in the season.

xman: Some of the players you're talking about not getting any minutes or getting any scholarship assistance are walk-ons. They don't normally get scholarships unless they hang around and potentially earn one.

Absolutely mind boggling to waste a scholarship on a guy who wants to be part of the program, but might not have the ability to contribute. This one is on Saul. Given our lack of depth, why doesn't someone like Arkley or student media member ask Saul about this more in-depth?

As for Wadley, how does this guy come back next year? From starter at Florida Gulf Coast to zero minutes....just bizarre.
when you have 13 scholarships to give but only have 11 of them filled, giving 1 to a grad student is not "wasting a scholarship". Even if he never steps on the court this year he is contributing to the team in practice which is more than is being done by the 13th scholarship. And if he's on the team next year he'll be 1 of only 2 seniors on a team with 8 freshmen and sophomores.

Thomas played 22 minutes/game last season and averaged 8pts/6rebs. Against #17Marquette he went 26/11 in 27min. The kid has the ability to contribute to our team. I too am surprised that he hasn't made it on the court yet but that doesn't mean his scholarship was wasted.

I'm confused, I thought Arkley had some post about Thomas developing his own academic issues at Ohio which is what is preventing him from playing, not Saul.

He's redshirted already. He is supposed to have two years to play two seasons. As some others pointed out, we're already short one scholarship player for this year. Bringing in Thomas and giving him a scholarship this year is not a waste. Otherwise two scholarships would have gone unused altogether. I am in agreement with everyone else, though, that it is very strange that Thomas has not played even a minute, even though he supposedly was cleared to play finally a couple of games ago.

Someday, I'm going to enjoy getting the Paul Harvey explanation on this situation....whenever it may happen.

There is a coach's show every Monday. Call in and ask. Or send an e-mail and ask.

I don't know the answer to that question and I too am puzzled by it. If I had to guess I would say its a combination of him not being up to speed (he was gone most of the summer with a Nike internship) or Saul has made the decision that there are too many people ahead of him in the rotation that are struggling and that playing them is the solution over benching them ,instead of giving some of their minutes to guys like Chandler.

I seem to recall seeing or hearing somewhere that pretty much immediately after the Grambling side of the issue was resolved, there was now an OHIO side issue that had something to do with his enrollment, class load, or something like that.

this tweet from Arkley re:Thomas

"To follow up on Thomas, was brought in to be a practice guy/emergency sub. Hurt self with academic issue. Was never going to be a regular"

At this point in the year, it's not worth asking what's going on with Thomas, as Mr. Arkley has noted it's a coaches decision that he's not played since he was eligible.
