It's more than 45 minutes after a game ends, and there are no posts on here about the loss tonight. Have we all just lost interest?

I was tied up watching Xavier-UC (I live in Cincy), so I don't know much about how the game unfolded. And maybe there was chatter in the chat room. But there isn't even a comment on the game thread this long after the game ended?!?

Just an observation about the state of this sad season.

(That said, I will be making the drive to Athens on Saturday to support my team. Bobcats forever.)

Not much this am either....till we started talking about ticket prices. Was surprise to get up this am and see no responses from when I went to bed.

It is ok. Out with a whimper. Just more time to get to work getting ready for next year.

Although the whole family, 3 generations, are big Bobcat fans, I think most are glad that I'm not riding the emotional roller coaster that I usually ride this time of year.

no apathy here. I followed the many Ohio related twitter accounts while watching UC/X game. I expected a .500 season, optimistically. But after NCAA win vs G'town and then the Sweet 16 run I'd be fibbing if I said I was thrilled with a losing record this season.

my hopes: consistent 20+ win seasons moving forward with reasonable hopes to make a deep run at the Q in March.

but I recognize restocking the roster will take time. patience.

any word how Christian is doing this season?

Is that a serious question or are you making a point?

Sometimes apathy can be confused with a couple other potential things:

1) Fans choosing not to post negative things, or waiting until they've "cooled off" after the game to post.

2) Fans realizing that the reality of a team/season "is what it is".

I've been in both camps this year, and at the current time, I'm squarely in the "it is what it is" camp. Like you, I watched UC/X. I did listen to Russ call the OU game, and it sounded like they did well until the last 3ish minutes.

For the future, 20+ win seasons is a nice start, but I'm hoping more for 24-25 win seasons and being in the top 3 in the MAC annually. If Zippy can do it, so can Ohio. I'm well aware that it'll take a couple seasons to get back to that point, but to me it should be the expectation for Ohio Basketball.

This is pretty much it. How many more ways can one restate the obvious flaws with this team before it becomes a pointless exercise in torture? The horse is dead and needs no more flogging. Here's a review of the game (and almost every other loss):

- Showed signs of life but couldn't put 40 good minutes together (final six minutes without a FG!)
- Few assists
- Idiotic turnovers
- Poor defense
- Dramatically outrebounded
- One or more bigs in foul trouble

I think this is a fair synopsis. Throw in that very few actually saw the game because of the $8.95 price tag and I think there isn't much to say. Last night was sadly one of our better efforts on the season.

I, for one, am glad we don't belabor the point too much. We know what the problems are; there's simply not a whole lot left to say. For me, I only caught the last 55 seconds.

Agreed. At the end of December, into early January, I was still expressing frustration. At this point, I root for them, and just hope a few good W's come of the rest of the season. They are what they are, though I hope next year is vastly different.

Here's hoping! I would hate to think we're two or three seasons away from being relevant again. Ugh. That would be an eternity for a hoops fan.

This sums up my feelings perfectly. Well said.

The big key for our program to hit that 24-25 wins every year is going to be establishing stability. I don't blame Groce for moving on when he did at all, but Christian bolting after two years really hurt. I have all the confidence in the world that Saul can get us back on track (and soon), but the big question for me is whether he will stick around after a taste of success. Like him or not, Dambrot isn't going anywhere, and it's a huge advantage for Akron. We need that here.

I agree - having Dambrot anchored at the helm in Akron is the key reason they've elevated themselves to the top of the heap and stayed there. I've always been confident that the Ohio program would have eclipsed them had Groce stayed. I think the same would have been true with Christian. If's and but's are fun to talk about, but they aren't reality.

I think not just Ohio, but the MAC as a whole, is well positioned for the future. Just gotta keep the Saul's, Hurley's, Keno Davis', of the conference in their head coaching spots for 4,5,6 more years.

Under Groce? No question. Can you imagine what he could do in recruiting with a Sweet 16 birth to drop in his pitches?

Christian, though, I'm a little unsure. I know they mostly weren't his players, but he had two stacked teams that went 1-5 vs. Akron. He always struck me as the guy who could keep us at "pretty good with a chance to compete for the conference title" more than "the team to beat most years."

I rarely post immediately after loses. Too many negative emotions.

The fact that I am here on this board posting within 24 hours of a loss is a sign that the result didn't surprise me.
I do avoid the board more in general during seasons like this as it tends to bring out the folks who have already written off our chances for NEXT year. Ridiculous. It is ridiculous to write this team off 100%. Just about anyone is capable of getting hot at the right time.

It's going to take an amazing stretch of hot shooting for this team to do any damage in the postseason. We just aren't good enough defensively. Anything can happen but...

I've given up on Bean he takes way to many shots 5 to 10 sec. into the shot clock and he turns the ball over way to much for a senior.

Mo has more TOs than Bean does, which is pretty ridiculous when you think about how many times he DOESN'T touch the ball when he should. Both are averaging almost 3 TOs a game.

I can see that point of view. I'm hopeful that Saul is maybe somewhere in between?

I don't want to throw fuel on a fire, but I find this interesting. The reason is because after the Miami loss, I stopped myself from posting something gentler than this. I wanted to ask, why it is that Mo seems to get more benefit of the doubt than Bean when it comes to "blame" on here? By no means am I bothered by his efforts, but it does seem he gets a free pass here and Willis takes more flak.

I thought during the World Games that the best thing for Mo was that he did a solid job but now that we are more than half way through his senior year I realize that during the World Games the worst thing for MO was that he did a solid job. Now he thinks he's a perimeter player and he spends less time down low. He gets most of his boards from long rebounds and shame on him for showing us against Buffalo what he can do if he takes over 15 feet and in. Mo should NEVER shoot a 3 and should never get the ball on the perimeter and look to make a move. He and Bean have shown that after having 3 coaches in their careers they are out to get theirs. I thought Stevie was getting like that too but he has calmed down. I will give benefit of the doubt to having a coaching transition. What I will not give benefit of the doubt to is selfish shot selection, poor boxouts and poor closeouts. I coach girls basketball and have kids who hustle more on boxouts and closeouts than these guys.

honestly I have to somewhat agree and I might take heat for this too. But I'd have to say Mo is one of the most disappointing players I've seen at Ohio. I feel like he has so much potential and has given us spurts of it but the fact that he hasn't done as well as anyone thought he would (which for me was be MAC POY)has driven me crazy. He still has time to make things happen though so I'm not giving up yet. If he and Bean can live up to their potential this tournament then I will completely change my stance but if we get knocked out first round I'm going to be pretty bummed and disappointed with this group of seniors.

Maybe it's because as point guard Bean is supposed to run the offense, which includes feeding other players. Instead, it seems his first instinct is to find a shot for himself. I know that's "Bean being Bean" but our greatest successes have come when the PG focused more on getting the ball to an open man and less on his own point total.
