Why? The common answer is that they are women instead of men. The men's team is not very good this year and the traffic here is less than half that was discussed last year. The women's team is kicking ass and having a season that the men would have wet dreams about. How much discussion is there about the women on Bobcatattack? Barely an acknowledgement that Ohio even has a team.

Ugh. I remember going thru this in 07-08 when a few posters made it their mission to paint us all as sexists...and made a big push for a new board for the women's team.

But any way, speaking of the women's team. I was looking at the schedule yesterday. The next 2 should be cake walks (sorry McKinney) to 21-3. From there, we play at 8-4 Akron....but after that, 3 home games against poor teams and a road game against 1-10 Kent.

What I'm saying is, 25-4 seems probable and 26-3 seems possible. With that, I think an at-large is very much in play. Absolutely incredible for a team that was 9-21 last year and 6-23 the year before.

I count seven threads in the last four pages of discussion. Wow! Don't talk about them too much or you might have more people go to their games. No major promotion from the athletic department to encourage attendance. Is Ohio afraid of success?

I would suggest that you contact the athletic Dept folks to complain about this. There seems to be complaints about how they're run so it may not help, but it may make you feel better. Who knows- something may actually change.
I'm not sure that the issue is about sexism as much as apathy about non-major sports - male or female.

Are you really trying to bring drama about this? If you want to talk about it start a friggin thread and we'll talk about it. And I'm sorry but I'm not going to apologize because my interests are in men's college basketball. I don't post in the football or volleyball forums much either. I fully support anyone whose interests aren't mine but your attempts to make anyone feel guilty about not posting about any subject is pretty darn pathetic.

And guess what? Who cares what percentage my posts are about women's basketball. His 33% still totals fewer than my total posts on the subject. Do you know what that means? It means the guy you should be complaining to is the thread starter. It's clearly his interest but he still doesn't take the time to talk about it.

YOu know.....instead of running folks here down and ensuring they will never get into womens hoops you might come on here and be excited about the product they are putting on the floor. Running us down is a bit silly in my book.

Being from a family of hoopheads my cousin was an Indiana All Star, Runner up Miss Indiana basketball and another cuz played on the Lima Bath team that went to State but i still prefer mens ball to womens. I even tried to change the lack of fundamentals and game knowledge by coaching girls grade school teams. Unfortunately, it is a different game and not quite as appealing to me. Better shooters and more attentiveness to detail but not the same game. Not going to apologize for not liking it as much. I support, I go, I yell and cheer, I like the players I know and help them with any workout they want me to run them through but it is not as exciting from the grade school levels through the pros IMHO.

I sincerely hope you are not thinking the men's fans really have wet dreams about better seasons and are really so crass as to put that up there. Not gonna win fans or friends of the program that way.

I am a hoops junkie and chances are that if I hear a ball bouncing in a gym I am gonna watch boys or girls.grade school or pro. Bottom line is the best way to get us involved and hyped is to engage us. I love mens and womens vball and talk on that board but I am not engaged with womens hoops. So get me excited instead of running the group down.

My "complaint" on this subject is that every Saturday when there is an opportunity, there isn't a true double header for Ohio hoops. I admit that the success of the ladies has brought the idea to light for me, but the point remains the same: more needs done with scheduling to have men's/women's hoops promotion in combination. Many of our in conference rivals take the chance to do this when we're playing in their barns - CMU and Miami in the last month. Ohio should be doing the same, and when I was a student about 15 years ago, they did.

I even think it would make sense to sell a season ticket that grants men's basketball ticket holders access with one ticket to these double headers. I'd glady spend the extra dollars to do this. I understand that there's an all-sports pass that would include women's basketball, volleyball, and so on. So when I go to order football or basketball tickets, there should be something telling me to also get women's hoops tickets, or volleyball tickets.

I never question how hard the folks in OUr marketing and promotions and ticket sales are working. And I know they are getting better. That's been evident to me over the last 4-5 seasons. But I do think there are plenty of simple things that could be done (that get discussed here regularly) to get more butts in seats, and make OUr game day atmospheres even better.

borna, one of your remarks in this thread surprised me a little. I have a friend who has coached both girls and boys basketball. At the college level he says that the women play much better fundamental, team basketball. The men, he says, tend to be less team-oriented and more into showboating. Each year he prefers to watch the women's NCAA tournament to the men's tournament. He tries to watch all of the women's games and just some of the men's games, depending on matchups, or teams he has a rooting interest in. Unless I misunderstand, his take is the opposite of yours.

OCF, I think most of the things you say are true. I said women are better shooters. They see the bucket, shoot with good form and do not try to acrobatically alter or force the shot. It is agreed that the style of ball is more fundamental. I prefer College, HS and FIBA games over the NBA for the approach to the game because of the team approach. Just my likes, not an indictment of any other form of ball. What I like is not what my buddies like. I do not get the enjoyment out of the women's game as much as I do the men, 'specially at the lower levels. Some peers like seeing an athlete take over a game and not worry about the team. Some of them like watching the women. As long as the ball is bouncing it's all good. The game is bigger than each of us and there is plenty to like.

I know it's been a while since Ohio played mens/womens double headers as a regularly scheduled league contests. I don't have access to the record books, but I bet the best women's attendance records were set during this span of play.
This is a basketball junkie's dream. Two games in one afternoon or evening. You could have a meal or social between games, meet the players and coaches. You could make it almost as big as the tailgate parties for the football team. You have to make it more than just a game. You have to make it a social event.
