I know you don't care about NDSU but I don't think with Saul it will be a lot of rebuilding years, I think once the program is built up it will stay consistent.
By the way, I think you'll find a lot of people around here do pay attention to NDSU. I know I, and quite a few others around here, pay more attention to the mids (MVC, Horizon, Summit, etc.) than we do to the big money conferences. The Summit has a number of good basketball schools and to do what you guys have done over the last 7 or 8 years is pretty impressive.

Welcome Hazey and thanks for the thoughts.

I like Saul and what he is bringing. You post gives some good insight and should answer the questions some have been asking.

Come back periodically and give perspective and input.

Appreciate the input, hazey. It pretty much confirms my general observations of Saul thus far at OHIO -- a great recruiter who does best with a certain type of player, which unfortunately at this point we don't have an over abundance of. I'm looking for a steady improvement over the next few years as he gets his guys in place and everyone learns his system. It's a system that appears much different from that of any of our other coaches of the recent past. As some have said, this year with the players we have, who don't seem to be either capable or willing to run that style, it's been hard to actually figure out what that style is. Your description of his style and the kind of players he recruits makes it easier for me to visualize what it is that Saul is trying to do. Thanks so much, and come back often.

Think there's any chance we'll see OHIO schedule NDSU for an upcoming season? I, for one, would love to see it.

If I could really discern our present coach's system from what I have seen, I could choose between the three, but as I can't, I didn't vote. Hopefully next year our system will be more apparent.
I think the system is a much bigger change from JC to SP than it was from JG to JC. That said, I think it was just a perfect storm of things... tear it down, build it back up stronger.

Hazey, great post. Thanks for coming on here and giving us a perspective by a NDSU fan. BTW, many of us on here follow mid major hoops so we DO care about NDSU.

Lack of talent/depth. Add in more capable players and Bean/NDour/Campbell don't need to shoulder so much which probably leads to more Ws but maybe a lower ceiling. It's weird, I feel this 10 win team has a higher ceiling than any of Miami, EMU, NIU, and maybe even Akron.

I feel so ODD after this season. OUr wins against Buffalo and Akron are two incredibly satisfying wins which give me such a visceral sense of pleasure. Add in the W against Miami tonight. At least there have been great moments in a down season.
