Probably old news to some, but when I spoke with Jim Schaus at the MAC championship game on Saturday, he said the new hanging scoreboard was in the works, probably/hopefully within a year or so. He said having the engineers see if the Convo roof would need to be strengthened was either happening or soon to occur. It would be nice to see. He also mentioned that planning for some major upgrades to Peden video/audio was in the works.

I've heard whispers of this and it's good to hear. While I've never felt a hanging scoreboard was a requirement, updated audio/video in The Convo and audio in Peden is needed.

Now, back to those hand dryers....

I'm on the Convo popcorn campaign as intently as LOVE is on the pretzel campaign.

Having the engineers do their "roof report" has been soon to occur for about 8 years now I think.

Does anyone know if our concessions are handled in house in terms of ordering, distribution etc. or do we use a service along the lines of Aramark?

I know we try to use community groups from around the region to help with game day.

The last game I went to was our CBI game against Wright State last year and the food was bad.

I don't know, but I'm sure others on this board do. I would think that with university food services housed just across the street, they could manage the ordering, distro, etc. and then the labor could be done by community groups/university clubs as part of their fundraiser. I don't see a vast difference between a gameday set up and the snack bar set-ups they have at certain dining halls. Why pay an outside vendor to handle something you can do yourselves?

One reason to outsource the concessions is to reduce liabilities while maximizing profit margin.

Trust me, as bad as concessions are now, they would be worse if Ohio tried to make the arrangements fit within the University bureaucracy.

My guess is they'd be better (how could it be worse, really) but Athletics wouldn't make any money.

I am the furthest thing from a science guy or engineer so excuse my ignorance. But how do you strengthen a roof like the convo? Just put in some sort of giant beam like they do on Property Brothers?

University ran concessions for 5 years after Thomas Boeh fired Laughlin Vending, they too were a horrible experience. Currently AVI is the company and has been for awhile. The contract is tired based annual sales.

From what I've heard they probably won't have to strengthen the roof; the engineering study is just to make sure that the current roof structure is sufficient. If needed, though, there are ways to do this that some engineering major on here once described.

AVI does a good job elsewhere, is it what we're giving them to work with that causes it to suck? Are they the ones choosing to serve nothing fancier than pizza or a pretzel for a hot food, or are we telling them that's all they can do?

The Athena cinema serves Shagbark popcorn which is very good and it is free on Wednesday with no donation.

Do we know when this is being started, and what they chose? I'd really like to buy a couple if they became available.

I do wonder if there has ever been much consideration given to this. I don't know how many of the local restaurants would be up for it but I would gladly pay for a slice of Goodfella's pizza or a Dixie Dog from O'Betty's.

I totally agree. I'd prefer a slice instead of Convo hotdog. I think if the dollars made sense, it would add to the experience to have a few local food options and...Pipe dream here...a couple Jackie O's beers to choose from.

I'm with Casper on the seats - I'm hopeful the majority continue to have cushions.
