Did anyone check out the twitter battle between JGuy MAC and an OU fan under moniker of Love_Bobcat?  Certainly entertaining.  Check it out if you get the chance! 

awesome. I've documented my disdain for his misuse of his work twitter account over on the MAC board. A couple of Wednesdays ago instead of tweeting about the 4 MAC games being played that night he spent the evening documenting his night out celebrating his "birthday eve". A couple of months ago it was the same thing but with a Justin Timberlake concert.

Jeremy Guy has an active personal twitter account, Love is right, we don't need this stuff from the official twitter account of the Dir of Communications for the MAC. Our DoC tweets more about the Browns and the Cavs than the MAC and is constantly name dropping restaurants his girl friend takes him to. He treats his work account like he's a celebrity who people follow because they are fascinated with his work life and personal life. We're not. Give us the relevant information about the MAC and keep your wedding plans and love for boy band singers to yourself on your personal account. It represents our conference poorly.

Does he have a personal account or is this his personal account?

I think the key is whether the account is personal or for work.

For those questioning if he has a personal twitter account- he does, or at least he did the last time I looked (mid December) and it was active. So maybe he deleted it? Don't know, but either way-

The twitter account being discussed is his work account and it should not be used as a personal account.

I think he sees himself as a Peter King type who comments on coffee and hotels and travel and such in his MMQB column. Others mentioned Arkley w/the Messenger for doing something similar.There are a couple of key differences to keep in mind-

1. There are other sports media members who do occasionally tweet personal tweets, but its usually kept within the context of knowing who their followers are. So Arkley might tweet about nearly sliding off the road going out to Trimble to cover a game, or Andy Staples at SI might tweet about his favorite BBQ stops on the road, but although its still sort of personal, its still somewhat relevant to their followers.

that reads like the twitter feed of a 12 year old girl, not the Communications Director of a D1 Conference with 5K followers.

then there's this one from a couple of weeks ago-

he starts the day by asking to borrow someone's cable account info so he can watch the NFL Network for free on his tablet. Should the Dir of Communications be publicly asking for people to share their passcodes with non paying customers?? He then tweets that there are 4 teams playing that night, before being corrected (there were 8 teams playing). The rest of the night is spent bragging about his birthday eve dinner. which leads me to reason #2-

#2- Its not just that he's using his work twitter account for personal use, its that his job is DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS for the MAC. This twitter feed is a significant tool for him to use for the primary function of his job. EVERYTHING he tweets represents our conference regardless of his intent. As previously stated, it makes us look bush league, and its literally his job to make our league not look bush!

nothing against the guy personally, because personally I don't know Guy. But if I see another tweet wishing Justin Timberlake a happy birthday I'm going to lose it. GROW UP. and congratulations on your pending nuptials.

My greatest pet peeve is "my tweets are my own" when it is clearly identifiable who the person works for.

I often see "my tweets are my own" from journalists who have the media affiliate they work for right in their description and regularly tweet out news story as part of their job from this same account....

If you tweet something idiotic from a public account, I am going to judge both you AND the company that was dumb enough to hire you. If someone hires you, ESPECIALLY if you are in PR hired to represent/say things for the company... They are making a statement that your values are respectable enough to represent their company.

I've called him out for unprofessionalism several times over the last year. He's never responded, LOVE has more street cred than me.

I have called him out before, but it usually for his bias of Akron basketball and how he rarely says anything about Ohio, except for when we win a game or something of that nature

Agreed.  Arkley is great.  It is a tough line to walk. You need to show your personal side and some edginess in order to set yourself apart, yet at the same time you need to be professional.  At the end of the day, JGuy MAC is great as a communications director.  He does a great job of getting the MAC additional exposure.  I'll accept a few bumps here and there for his overall body of work.

Case in point: this past November I tweeted at him asking who the referee for the Ohio-Buffalo football game was, given what happened in the '13 game. I simply asked, "Hey, who's the referee tonight?" and meant it as a legitimate question. He responds with "I doubt who is his name but you may be right..." or some other sarcastic response.

Definitely not a person with a thick skin, fair to say..

for me, what gets under my skin is that his title is "Assistant Commissioner for Communications & Social Media" so it is LITERALLY his job to use twitter to communicate about the MAC. Literally.

With Rob, his account is tweeting his primary job (which is WV republican stuff), so that's a non-issue to me. He pays the bills with the politics, and does OU color analyst work on the side. His account reflects that.

If the university was primarily paying his bills like Russ, sure, that's different.
