If its mental health related, I get that can be a tricky thing to handle from a coaching perspective. That begs the question though, is it Boals' responsibility to take care of this young man? It sounds harsh but he's on an athletic scholarship but not participating in any athletics.
When Michael Brown was away from the team... they said he was away from the team, and also mentioned he was dealing with personal issues, eventually it was mental health issues when he stepped away entirely.

Even if it's his choice to suffer in silence, does his mental health only get impacted for two hours on game day? Cause by all accounts, he's practicing daily. He's in all team activities.
Its truly puzzling and unfair to the rest of the team. We desperately need another body in the paint and the only option is a guy who is essentially a practice player that doesn't dress. I don't think we will ever get an answer on this if it hasn't come out by now, no point in releasing the info midway through Jan.
The new academic term starts Monday. If he is not dressed out and playing Tuesday night at the Convo vs CMU, then any further debate is not needed.
Good lord that's a long winter break for being on semesters.
As the recently departed from this board OCF would say, "fake semesters."

Bahamas Ezuma is not on the bench.
Did he get enough papers turned in to transfer to North Ocala Gulf State? They still have a solid VCR repair major, right?

I hope Boals didn’t tell Granger to transfer because we wanted more time for IJ

I am sure that is exactly what happened! How did you know?????

I mean, Granger is a total difference maker!!!!! 17 games for WCU, he's played in 7 games averaging 3ppg.

Well, he’s played in 7 more games than IJ. Gonna be more of a “difference maker” compared to someone who hasn’t played in two years. I’m sure you’d take IJ in a heartbeat though with your off the wall opinions lol.

What's off the wall? The fact that I recognize that Granger wasn't actually the missing piece?

I don’t remember saying he was the missing piece but it would be nice to have more depth

He chose not to have that role here. He obviously felt that grass was greener.

In my head-canon, if IJ is on the bench tonight but not dressed, the absence is not related to academics.

I'll take odds that the days of seeing IJ on the Ohio bench, in uniform or not, has come to an end.

He's on the bench...in street clothes. Guess he didn't do too well on exams.

1-16-2024 Update (Home vs CMU)

Bahamas Ezuma in street clothes.

Grades posted.

Semester officially started.

Truly pathetic.

It does make you wonder why he’s still here at this point. Not that I want the kid kicked to the curb, but it does seem like it’s in both sides best interest to part ways.

Too late to fill that schollie? Maybe Boals feels sorry for him and wants the kid to get his grades up enough to transfer to North Ocala Gulf State Community Technical College in St. Augustine. But obviously that gives Boals an extra schollie for the future. Let's see what kind of magic the coach can work with that extra spot.

It seems clear why IJ is still here.

Boals couldn't fill his last scholarship slot this off-season, so what's the benefit of another open slot this season?

The only upside scenario was that IJ got his grades up and got on the court. Seems like it's not going to happen, but if Boals didn't have anybody lined up for that roster spot anyhow there's no upside to removing him from the roster, and there was at least a small percentage chance that IJ contributed this year.

Maybe IJ's role is to go one-on-one with Wiz during practice?

Let the kid finish out his scholarship and move on. We have Jaylin and Miles moving on so add in Ezuma and one open and Burris and Evans in and we have 2 open schollies. Say we keep everyone else (longshot) then we need an Ali Ali type player and a DW3 type. NO MORE GUARDS.

I think we need another point guard.

Can OU afford the Ali Ali types?

Not that I want anyone to lose their job, but I wouldn’t be opposed to swapping Lee for a new assistant who’s tapped into the JUCO ranks. Between Sears leaving us; Wiz and IJ, I’m personally over the Hargrave connection. Lamar is our top assistant and I don’t think we need to double down on Hargrave at this point. We should be trying to open up new channels to acquire talent.

That's established? Unlikely, for either player type. DW3 never sniffs Athens in this landscape. We just need a guy who can actually shoot the 3 and another that's physical down low on both ends. Those are pieces to the puzzle that are currently missing.

I know it's a mixed bag on this board, but Ike is probably the closest thing to an Ali Ali type that we can land as far as player profile. I'm interested to see if he can put on some weight in a full off-season with us and take a Hadaway-like jump.

Yes we do.

Sheldon and Reef aren't point guards.
