Yeah hope I'm wrong but my gut says we'll hope to get a handful of useful minutes from Nichol once his Jr/Sr seasons rolls around.

Guys improve and surprise though.
LOL tough crowd.

This is why I always believed it to be academics with IJ. I don't think we're the only ones surprised he's still ineligible this season.

I believe the original thinking was we would have IJ and therefor there would be a logjam at the 4 - seems hilarious now - but surprised it's held with Nichol watching. I think Boals assumed IJ would be back, Hadaway/AJB/Cornish would rotate the 4, Wiz and Clayton would hold the 5... with IJ still out... I think he's probably in a tough spot.

Maybe Nichol doesn't want to throw away his red shirt with 12 games already in the can? I suspect he wants to play regardless, but we have to remember COVID is no more - there is no more free years. His clock starts the minute his feet touch the floor.

Could he be still sitting because the grades are out?

Here we go again.

It’s January 2, 2024.

Street clothes or no street clothes tonight?

I’ll go with street clothes.

In street clothes….again. He did get a Toledo crotch to the face on the bench so at least we know he can take a charge. First time in 24 months IJ made the boxscore.

How is this guy still a member of this basketball program?

I’ll bite. Could it be he’s not eligible until the next semester actually starts? I’ve run out of reasons, excuses etc. and the silence coming out of the Roundhouse is now a more closely guarded secret than the Nuclear codes. Maybe he’s some sort of secret weapon Boals is waiting to unleash in those “3 Days in March”!

Decided to listen to a few minutes of the Boals show and Russ said....."I'm not an independent contractor, I'm employed by the University...I'm not a reporter....I'm not asking Coach about Ezuma. When news is released, you'll know....don't shoot the messenger."

That's the best I can do paraphrasing. ^^^^

Russ also should have added....."poorly paid" employee.
EDIT: Went back and watched the first three minutes and Russ was talking about if he won Keno he was walking out of the restaurant. He then told Boals…”you haven’t seen my paycheck”.

At this point, the IJ "Mr Bahamas" Ezuma mystery is an effing joke.

Good question….not sure if I’d say defensive. But he made it a point to say I hear your questions about this and so does Coach.

I believe the show is up on Ohio hoops Twitter.

It’s actually annoying how Boals just sits there quietly drinking from his cup while Russ carry’s the Ezuma water. Boals should at least say “hey it’s an internal matter and can’t comment”. Instead Russ keeps going on “when there’s news we’ll let you know” and the guy who COULD answer to it is sitting next to him (and changing the subject).

That’s weak and very disappointing in Boals.

I realize we’re not exactly the ACC here… And Boals is my guy… but when your team falls below .500… and a big reason why is because 85% of the roster is under 6’4” and the one guy who might be able to help hasn’t dressed in two years… you’re gonna have to answer some questions. You just are. Even at Ohio University you have to answer for it.

At this point, other than the explicable fact he’s still on the team, he’s just taking a scholarship from someone who could actually be playing.

You nailed it with Ogbonda. We didn't need Wilt Chamberlain the last two years. We just needed a serviceable big to rest DW3 in 2022-2023 and then play a bit larger role in 2023-2024 with DW3 gone. This recruiting whiff stings on Boals record.
Here's the thing: in the years Ohio has had notable success, who recruited the best players in those teams?

In my mind, the largest issue here in recent years is recruiting and/or utilizing the recruited players to the strengths of said recruits.

1-9-2024 update

Bahamas Ezuma still wearing street clothes and enjoying his nice seat on the bench next to Ben Nicol. Why does this guy even travel? It’s not like he’s making The Whiz any better banging against him in practice on the road.

It's looking like the few dozen of us that saw the open scrimmage before the season got to see the only IJ game action of 23/24.

It really is crazy and somewhat of a slap in the face to those who care about this program to have this guy travel, yet, not answer a single question as to why he isn't dressing.

Could it be like with Harris on the football team that he has a non-injury related medical issue?

If it was health-related, I think the staff would let people know. Whether it's a social media post like with AJB and Harris, or in pregame radio interviews like in Miles' case.

If its mental health related, I get that can be a tricky thing to handle from a coaching perspective. That begs the question though, is it Boals' responsibility to take care of this young man? It sounds harsh but he's on an athletic scholarship but not participating in any athletics.

When Michael Brown was away from the team... they said he was away from the team, and also mentioned he was dealing with personal issues, eventually it was mental health issues when he stepped away entirely.

Even if it's his choice to suffer in silence, does his mental health only get impacted for two hours on game day? Cause by all accounts, he's practicing daily. He's in all team activities.

Its truly puzzling and unfair to the rest of the team. We desperately need another body in the paint and the only option is a guy who is essentially a practice player that doesn't dress. I don't think we will ever get an answer on this if it hasn't come out by now, no point in releasing the info midway through Jan.

The new academic term starts Monday. If he is not dressed out and playing Tuesday night at the Convo vs CMU, then any further debate is not needed.

Good point, but with grades officially posted...why wouldn't Bahamas Ezuma have been eligible a few games ago?

Just curious, does anyone know if Michael stayed in Athens to finish school with his brother?

I’ve seen him around.

Not sure about school. He’s a professional YouTuber now. Gun stuff.
