You really have to be looking for something to be offended by to be offended by SP's comment. It should be clear that he is saying- when these seniors are working in the real world these freshmen will still be in college. The use of "insurance salesman" is just a random use of an everyday, average job in the real world. Could have been any profession. If you read that and think " how dare he assume that all of these amazing college athletes won't all be professional athletes in a few years" then you are just trying to hard.
For added context, although none is needed, here is the full quote-
"Twenty-three turnovers. Twenty-three. That’s how it got away.
That just can’t happen. And especially against a good team. What’s sad is we put ourselves in position to get a really good win. I don’t think people around, anywhere, know how good this Tulsa team is.
I watched them kick Wichita State’s butt the other day. They’re good. They’re going to be an at-large type team if they don’t win their league.
You look back, the two things that went wrong: we didn’t take care of the ball and they got out in transition, and we couldn’t play without fouling. Although they had a hard time playing without fouling too.
“Disappointing, disappointing. They have nine seniors, we got one. When those guys are selling car insurance, we’ll be winning championships, so. When their guys are selling car insurance, we’ll be winning championships.
We got to learn from it, we got to get better."
there is no insult, explicit or implied. The reason SP released a clarifying message is because the beat rider for Tulsa threw a hissy fit and reached out to our administration for a quote from Saul.
