Believe they're an OAC team---same league as Marietta College.

They used to be OAC, now they are NCAC. They never competed well in the OAC.

If you like that, Miami plays Kenyon tonight.

Hiram finished 9th out of 10 teams in the NCAC last year. Akron had no business playing these guys, they're pretty poor even by Division III standards.

Not that I'm sticking up for Zippy, but we're playing Ohio Dominican in a month...that's not exactly a bragging rights game either.

At least Ohio Dominican is Division II with players on scholarship, but of course, Ohio has played Division III schools in the regular season in the past (Marrietta, for example).

Akron plays one miserable DII or DIII team every year and runs up the score. They have absolutely no shame. I've never seen us run up the score on a lower division team.

Absolutely no comparison btwn Hiram and Ohio Dominican. As others have said, Hiram is weak even by Div III standards. Dominican plays Div II ball in the GLIAC, one of the toughest Div II conferences.

Agree that Akron should find a decent small college team for a tuneup rat her than Hiram.

Here's a list of DIII teams playing MAC teams this week alone-

Hiram @ Akron
Alma @ CMU
Kenyon @ Miami
Eureka @ NIU

Alma is usually respectable, would more likely serve as a decent tuneup game for a Div I team.

Eureka is the alma mater of Ronald Reagan. Other than that, I've never hearD of them being a good Div III basketball school.

At least Marietta goes deep in the D3 NCAA tourny, and it is a fun (and historical) regional match with great attendance.

This is interesting. Look at all of the schools that were in the OAC at one time including OU:

I can't get too worked up about this. I wish they'd schedule slightly better non-Div I opponents, but whatever.

I said that Hiram was 9th out 10 teams in the NCAC...that last place team was Kenyon. Well done Miami. Alma is a very respectable squad just down the road from Central Michigan, much like Marietta is to Athens. Eureka is a middle of the road team out of the SLIAC conference, one of the bottom rung conferences in Division III. The NCAC and OAC are def. in the upper tier of DIII conferences.

[McKinney]Hiram really had a tough night and struggled to ever get it going. They are dealing with injuries to their strong forward and backup point guard, as well as turnover in the graduate assistant slot. They've proven before that they can make some noise however, and in fact trailed Our Lady of Peace College (a very very respectable program) by just 12 in the 2nd half a couple years ago.[/McKinney]

Alma played CMU very tough last night and was within 10 deep into the 2nd half.

Well, bobcat695's Parkersburg YMCA team beat Hiram, so that's really struggling.

I mean, Hiram is only 30 miles from Akron so they can make regional arguments too

Does this mean we can no longer dis Miami? Is it time to delete the "Miami sucks" thread?

In 1964, we could've had a President named Hiram who didn't go to Hiram.
