Buried in a piece about the football schedule, Arkley mentions a football road trip to Purdue was part of an agreement for a home and home in basketball. Details not yet announced. Great news, hopefully while class is in session and in a season in which Purdue has a strong team.

Better yet, in a season when Ohio has a strong team.

They have been here before...All American Rick Mount was here shooting 3's from the water fountain....2nd best 3 point shooter ever in the Convo after OUr own Dave Jamerson.

Agree that Mount shot from that range, but the three point shot didn't exist when he was at Purdue.

I've recommended for a long time that Ohio try to work out a football-basketball series with a school like Purdue. Its going to be the biggest home game since Wisconsin visited in 2002.

I was there, Doc, and fortunately all of those three's only counted as twos back in those days. Remember? ;-) Snyder used a diamond and one defense with the one being on Mount. Held him under his average by a few points, if I remember correctly, but OHIO won the game. It was another of Gentleman Jim's great legendary victories in what is still the best era of OHIO basketball. Glad to see that Purdue will be coming back, and I hope that Saul can pull out another win over the Boilermakers. With Saul I think OHIO's best basketball days are in the future not the past. Having an Elite 8 team again is something I think will once again be in our grasp. Go OHIO!

And didn't Ohio top Purdue in Grover Center when Dave Shellhouse (please forgive my not remembering the spelling) when he was leading the nation in scoring?

I was there too as well as at the following game when we beat The in Columbus. Add to that wins against Northwestern and Indiana on the road to start the season. If my memory is correct, I believe we were ranked #5 in the country after that flurry. '69 - '70 was a fun ride with no superstars on the roster, just a bunch of good players who meshed well and were coached up.

Once E twan, Robbie and Jujuan ....all really great kids and now men ...left there was a vaccuum of leadership and character. Matt has re established that and has rebuilt the program from it's situation a couple of recruiting classes back. Transfers are not any better at the schools they ended up playing for.... PU will be decent when they come in here.

This will be one of those rare Ohio games we'll attend that my IU-grad fiancee roots against our opponent more than me.

Right. Remember, Kentucky came to the Convo. It wasn't pretty if you were an Ohio fan.

Agreed if we're lucky enough to have it when the students are here.

That was my biggest gripe of the Hunter Era. Somehow he managed to have his very worst team, one of the worst in OHIO history, the year UK came calling. He knew about this game several years in advance and should have adjusted his recruiting, even if it meant bringing in some JUCOs, to have a representative team on the floor for that game. Instead, we had the Wilderness Campaign. Ugh!

I don't think that game was scheduled that far in advance. Coach Pitino was so impressed with the Trent and Geno team that played well at Rupp that he said he would schedule a game in Athens. Wasnt that game two seasons later? Unfortunately, Pitino was gone by the time the game was played and the Wilderness Campaign was in full swing.

Two or three years was enough to insure that we didn't have one of the worst teams in OHIO history facing the Wildcats in the house. It was a shameful performance on Hunter's part. Truly shameful. You hit a nerve with this one.

I shudder to think that OUr head basketball coach would alter his recruiting strategy for the specific purpose of trying to be more competitive in a single non-conference home game against a powerhouse that had finished in the top 10 every year for the previous 5 or 6 seasons.

This was the chance of a lifetime to really grow the fan base by pulling an upset at home in the Convo. Hunter should have pulled out all stops to at the very least have a representative team face Kentucky in this game rather than the worst team in my lifetime. It just stunk!

5-21. 3-15 in the MAC
That's .192 and .167 respectively.
Now, that's BAD!

What really upset OCF that night was this guy in gray military garb coming down after the game and waving a Confederate flag...hey, that actually happened and that image will forever be burned into my mind.
