This year's team may be doing a rope a dope. The talent is raw and yet once they gel, it could be an interesting team come MAC tourney time and hopefully beyond. When one looks on paper and gives it the initial eye test, this team probably scares lots of scouts. Hopefully, it is only a matter of time before it all comes together, including defense.

Ugly game. UAPB were pretty scrappy. We held them to 22% FG shooting H1 - ran them down to the last second multiple times. They we hot from 3 H2 - 86%. We were not a well oiled O machine tonight - but finally began to break the zone down and Campbell had huge night.

Couple of the off the bench many want to see more of - well - when they Were off the bench - they did not contribute much.

If AKPB did not hit 11 3 pointers this probably would have been a blow out!
I didn't see the game so this is speculation based on prior games, but maybe they wouldn't have hit 11 threes if we defended better. Even moderate ball movement seems to lead to wide open shots for the opposition this year, and good teams will make us pay.
Saul admitted as much in the post game show. Hopefully we see improvement in that area.
Saul also pointed out some improvements that they have made on defense. Also said that some of those threes were defended well and they just made shots. Mentioned one case where Dartis had a guy in the corner and he threw up a desperation 3 with 2 secs on the shot clock and it went in. Sometimes, even the best defense can't stop a lucky shot.

That was about as bad an offensive team I think I've ever seen in the Convo. Their offensive structure was terrible. Only one guy was moving ever. It looked like the offense a bad AAU coach would run with incredible athletes except they didn't have the athletes. Odd game to watch. We never really got a big lead but it felt like a blowout to me the whole time. We missed a bunch of wide open threes and they hit several they don't normally make. Looked like a good number of our players were thinking about Christmas break.

This game turned out to be exactly as I was thinking. The game was never in doubt even as the lead shrunk to 4 or 5 points.
The caliber of the teams on the OOC slate is weaker than what we will see from our own conference.
The next game will most likely mirror yesterdays.
As some have stated the bench just doesn't seem to be making any contribution.
Couple this with some of our starters not being consistent in the scoring column leads one to be concerned going into the conference schedule.

We know this has to be one of the least experienced teams in D1. We hope Ohio has a better chance of mod-season improvement over the average team. So far it looks like regression as we go forward.

Not sure I agree that the bench isn't contributing. They may not be scoring a ton but I thought Laster and Wadly had solid games. Yesterday wasn't Block's best game but he's an asset off the bench.

It's more puzzling to me that they aren't being given a few more minutes. Wadly, Gollon, Block, Laster, Taylor have all shown to be capable contributors.

I have to disrespectfully disagree. Had I been the coach, and hindsight is always 20/20, I would have pressed us from the gitgo. Their ball movement was fine, they just didn't attack the hoop. If we don't make a bunch of free throws this board would be on fire.

APB probably had the most awful bricks I have ever seen in a single game. I think they had a few backboard only, and some that reached rim but in no way were near going in. It's amazing they hit as many 3's as they did with the clankers. They reminded me of Tunji's FT missing to the right a few years back.
