Ohio wins but Ohio Dominican doesn't lose as it's considered an exhibition for them.

Read the ODU write-up of the game around 11:00 p.m. No report on the game yet from Division 1 Ohio.

If you would've told me Kaminski, Simmons & Dartis were all going to play 30+ and Tony would find himself in foul trouble all night, I wouldn't have believed you. Not too alarming, but being only up 14 with 6 minutes to go in the game against a team even McKinney couldn't say nice things about is nothing to be excited about.

But good God, Kenny Kaminski. 8 for 11 from 3 point...Incredible. What a weapon he is.

In spurts we looked pretty good. For the majority of the game it was more "blah" to my eyes. They looked pretty flat for a lot of the game, not a ton of energy. The offense looked pretty stagnant at times in the half court. When we picked up the pace and tempo the lead stretched, then we'd have another stagnant period. There was pretty much no energy in the Convo with a light student-less, band-less crowd and mostly uninspired play. Kaminski shot the lights out, Tony looked great while he was on the floor, Jaaron had a double-double with points/assists and had very few turns. The number of open looks allowed from 3 was worrisome, to me. Do that against a good MAC team (or any team) with good shooters and we'll get buried. The defense was better in the 2nd half but still not great. Tony continued to show an inability to avoid stupid fouls and stay on the floor, also worrisome to me.

The end result was pretty much never in question but it wasn't a masterpiece by any means.

Totally agree with this synopsis, especially the part about the number of open looks we surrendered. In fairness, it was an odd game given the timing and D2 opponent so I'm inclined to not read too much into it.

Kaminski was definitely hobbled by the ankle Saturday. Hope it doesn't linger.

If that's the case, I hope they don't play him tonight. A few days of getting healthier is more important in the long run.
I worry about his shoulder too. Rest the guy!
Just let him play, he'll do alright.

I am still concerned about the bench strength. Checking the box scores it clearly continues to show that coach also has some real concerns based on the PT he is giving this group. A team today needs to have more than 5-7 players to win consistently.

Obviously they have a medical staff who has evaluated this to know whether rest is needed or not. I still saw it as a game that would have been good to rest him.

My only concern coming out of this one is that guys like Gollon, Block, Taylor, Laster, and Wadly didn't get more PT. This seemed like a game where the starters could/should have played 20-25 mins instead of closer to 30-35.

There was an early play when he drove the lane and was fouled. He walked to the free throw line with an obvious little limp. Other than that I didn't see any sign he was in pain.

I saw him limp to a timeout at one point.

Very sluggish game in a sluggish atmosphere. No band really puts a damper on things..and they didn't even do "Lights out in the Convo?" Boring night.

Note to Tone:

When a member of the opposition secures a rebound, DO NOT stand behind them and swat around their body at their hands, that's the definition of a dumb foul, especially when you already have 3.

As to the open looks from three, I have to say that I thought ODU moved the ball well. They didn't have the size or the athletes for this game, but I thought they moved the ball well and found those looks.

Their little point guard Waugh did a good job at times of breaking us down off dribble penetration and finding open guys from three. Hard to cover everybody when someone dribbles into the lane. Someone helps and leaves a guy open on the perimeter.

Yes, these guys are at a currently mediocre Div. II program, but they are still guys who have earned a scholarship at a program that plays in a tough league. They aren't stiffs and can create problems even against Div. I teams.

If you heard someone yell "Oh my God!" when he committed that foul, that was likely me. So sloppy, so foolish. His first foul was just as bad, running into the PG on his way down the floor. If you look at his games with foul trouble, there is typically one or two of the fouls that make you scream "What are you thinking!?"

I'm of a different opinion on this play. I believe that there are plays in basketball when the ref should not make any call at all. In this play, for example, the ODU ball handler created the contact. Why should Tony be called for a foul? Nobody (Tony, ODU ballhandler) gained an advantage. Play on, in my opinion.

When you're a foul magnet, running upcourt on the heels of the point guard might not be the best place to put yourself, chicken____ call, or not.

Ha ....I remember the same lament from someone in the crowd when Devo and KVK hard hedged the high ball screens and got tagged for a fair amount of fouls. Pretty sure I'd prefer the high hard hedge to the silly fouls.

Well - That PG was on a break - Tone doing what he needed to do - and the PG lost his footing and fell down and essentially into Tone trying to control the ball - not much Tone could do there - it was just a real bad call.

It was more than that. I ran it back a few times to see if I was missing something. He deliberately veered in front of him and then slowed down. The contact was minor and should have been a no call.

Referee here. I think it was a good call, though a cheap move to draw the foul on behalf of their guy. He had legal position and Tony displaced him. IMO, Tony had enough time and space to avoid the contact.
