The announcers are as bad as the emptiness behind the hoops. What an eye sore. Obviously the Ozone can't be on camera all night but it looks terrible on tv. When I was there at least there were people there
Keep in mind every high school team in Ohio is playing tonight, that's big in SEO.
Emptiness behind the hoops has nothing to do with crowd because there are no seats there. It has to do with them moving the band and replacing it with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
All I'm saying is the band used to be back there and now it's just an eye sore. I really think we need something behind the hoops. A lot of open space that's all.

Yes, the empty space itself is annoying, but I've mentioned in the past that something could be done to reface the walls of the lower bowl so it doesn't look like a giant public restroom. My suggestion is a faux brick facade to improve the look all around.

Ive never given a thought to the area behind the hoops. Much to do about nothing.

What "hurt" the broadcast of the game last night was the sterility of the announcers being in Florida. Part of the effect of a good crowd is it that when they get loud the announcers in the arena have to get loud too to be heard. When the crowd is roaring but the studio announcers are talking in golf tones it hurts the broadcast.

I'll take Reggie over Stevie Mix or Dave "ButMoreImportantThanThat" Cecutti anyday.

I saw most of the Houston-ECU game on ESPNews today and I swear the announcers were in a studio somewhere else. No shots of them on press row and the same kind of low-key announcing style that last night's guys had. I realize that ESPN has to cut expenses, but this is sort of the modern-day version of radio sportscasters sitting in a studio doing pbp by reading wire service rundowns (a la Ronald Reagan and the announcer during road games in "Bull Durham").

100% agree. He's not all that polished but at least he comes across as knowing what he's talking about. I thought both announcers did a pretty good job considering they weren't even in the arena.

WSAZ is lazy and unless it's the beloved Terd they won't go more than a mile from the studio's to cover anything.
This is a sad commentary on the times, because it used to be that WSAZ was the best place to get TV coverage of anything happening in Southeastern Ohio. They were, I believe, the only station that did a live broadcast of Lyndon Johnson's address in Athens back in the early '60s. They had stringers all over the area that would feed them with stories, and film footage. I know, because I was one of them. Used to take the film can to the bus station (yes, we had a full-service bus station) and they would deliver it to Huntington. If you timed it right, you could get it there in a few hours, otherwise, it might be the next day. Most of the stories stringers did were not "breaking news" so a small delay didn't make any difference.

Neither did I and I bet 99% of those watching didn't either.
