I think what we saw last night was a complete microcosm of this team and this season. They played some of the best basketball I've seen all year and shot the lights out for a good 25 minutes. The other 15 minutes, with a little help from hometown refs, were absolutely dreadful. This is a big win and confidence booster for this team.
Re: refs
They were terrible. No other way around it. Remember that play where Tony was running the floor, caught it mid-stride and got an easy deuce they called a travel? Sure, I'll give them that. But if you call that you have to call a travel on Toledo's Williams when he did his do-si-do spin down the left side of the lane where he took what looked like 3-4 steps. Where's the consistency?
And Tony wasn't playing hardly any defense at all, yet any time Boothe initiated contact he got the call. WHY? The one time, it looked like Tony just let him have the layup and they still called the foul. It was ridiculous. But when Jaaron gets in the lane because he toasted the Toledo PG he doesn't get one? Cmon.
KK was absolutely raining three's last night, but I'm worried he looks for his shot a little too much at times. I even caught myself saying "has he passed the ball tonight?" Still, if they're gonna leave you that open from where you've already hit, may as well try again.
I think my favorite part of this offense is that it seems like Ohio has at least 3-4 guys who can shoot from deep at any moment. With the starters, there are five.
