I know the key is to stopping Johnson and trying to get him to bowl over some folks with charges, but I have a different idea:

Make Johnson win the game. Make him score 50+ points and shut everyone else down. With the way Ohio has been scoring, there's no way Dambrot is going to trade twos and clock time for threes and run outs for very long.
Why can't you take charges and take away the three?
I mean you can. That kinda goes without saying. I think initially I'm more concerned with doubling down on Johnson and his kick outs for wide open threes. That's probably what I should have put in the original comment.
I'd agree with that. The key is not letting him just back guys down though. If we allow him to catch the ball we can't just let him back us down 18" at a time. I agree that doubling him could end up in a barrage of threes.

I went to order my ticket this morning and the game is sold out. Place is going to be nuts. Those in Bobcat green, I better hear you on TV.

I think Saul has grown more comfortable with JD bringing the ball up more frequently to spell JS for longer stretches when teams have committed to hounding him (truth be told, I don't think he gets tired. guy has a serious motor). On the other hand, if we break those double-teams we can grab some easy buckets. Make them back off.

"shut everyone else down"

Hmm, wish I was smart enough to have the strategy for that in my back pocket. I get your point but I'm not sure exactly how this team achieves that goal, or any team. I think it's easier to strategize to shut one player down than to let one player go off and "shut everyone else down."
It's a lot easier than you think. Once one player gets going, everyone keys on him which opens up things for the other guys. My point is if Johnson starts to get his buckets, just don't let him beat you with passes too. I'd take two from him rather than three from Kretzer or McAdams.

Regarding guarding Johnson: I would love to see Tone or Doug Taylor, one time, pull off what Rick Mahorn did to Shaq on one or two occasions - pull the chair out from under him.
Take a quick step back right as Johnson is ready to back into you and let him lose his balance for a traveling violation. Then be sure to pretend to hide the little smirk on your face ala Mahorn.

I just looked on ticketmaster and there are both Gen Admin and Chair back seats still available in the upper level.

Its the "Clevelander" in me, but I think Akron pastes Ohio tonight. Akron found their groove this past Saturday and are back. They've been in this position countless times before and their players are experienced; plus, Akron's undefeated at home this year. Hope I'm wrong!

That being said, no matter what happens tonight this game is a win-win for Ohio. At a minimum a very young Ohio will get much needed experience on what its like playing for a championship. That is something that cannot be practiced. A team, if fortunate enough, has to go through it. The benefit of the experience of tonight's game will reap huge rewards for next year's team I think.

So no matter what happens, Ohio will gain a lot from this game; I really think so. GO CATS!

Forsythe being out makes me a bit more optimistic about this game. They still have Johnson down low, but he is a guy who really seems to need some breathers throughout the game to play his best. I'm sure Dambrot will come up with some way to guard Campbell when Johnson is not in, but I'm not sure it'll be too effective.

It will be a typical OHIO game. I think we score a lot of points. I think on the road in their gym and with our defense they score more. I'd say a score in the 80s. So, it will probably be a defensive slugfest in the 60s:)

There are still tickets on TicketMaster: http://www.ticketmaster.com/university-of-akron-zips-mens... . I'm assuming the Akron ticket office can pull from the same source as TicketMaster.

I actually went back to the Akron site and checked it out and it seemed to be working. there were only upper level seats there, but I am just going to settle for TV tonight. When I thought it was sold out, I was a little relieved because I'm tired and won't have to log four hours in the car tonight. As much as I want to see this game live, it was hard to "re-motivate myself" for the drive. this way, I get to go home, get some exercise, eat real food (the first four letters in bar food spell 'barf'). put my pajamas on and scream my head off at the TV. No one will know the horrible things I've said except my neighbors.

Correct, it is not on TWCSC. It is on American Sports Network. It is being picked up by wsyx-2, which in Columbus Time Warner is channel 990. you can type in your zip code in this website to find a station in your area http://americansportsnet.com/schedule /

Can only imagine what the neighbors heard during McAdams' early 3-pt. shooting onslaught.

This game is really highlighting the need for that last scholarship to be a guard, and one who can defend. Zips have lots of quick players that can shoot. We need another one to match up with that in my opinion.

Not much you can do when the other team makes 72 three pointers in one game.....many of them wide, wide open. That 3 at the half time buzzer completely stole our momentum. Hope to see them again in Cleveland. No way Akron shoots like this again. Secure the 2 or 3 seed on Saturday and forget about this one.

A lot of threes and a lot uncontested. I can't believe they don't face guard McAdams and/or Kretzer. Neither of them even threatened in the paint all night. McAdams just floated around the arc. It shouldn't that hard to guard. At least get out to the shooters with high hands. I saw hardly any of that tonight.

Edit: there were a lot of illegal screens being set, but that's not excuse for giving up that many threes.

Agreed. Let the fat dog play in the paint. Play Taylor and hack him. Close out on the perimeter better. Still, we don't have enough quick guys to match up with them in my opinion.

No excuse letting up 20 3ptrs and getting outrebounded by 20 (including 18 offensive rebounds)

I know Saul isn't building this program on defense but they will never have any March success with that. It has to get better

meh. congrats to the Zips but lets not get too worked up, they had a great night shooting from 3, good for them. I'm not worried about them playing like that again if we see them in Cleveland.

We got burned in the paint also - on RB's especially (both sides of court). This is a HUGE issue if we want to make something happen in Cleveland. Tone vs Trent comparisons thread? Floating Tone does not help us in Cleveland. Others standing and or back-peddling after every shot does not help either.....
