I'm very fearful of Buffalo's rebounding prowess, and our considerable lack thereof. I don't think we're going to suddenly become a good rebounding team tonight, so we'd better hit a lot of shots or it could be ugly.

We are one of the best teams in the country in defensive rebounding. We don't pound the offensive glass but we are a very good defensive rebounding team. Numbers-wise Buffalo gets a ton of rebounds, and they are a good offensive rebounding team, but a lot of the numbers is because they have so many more possessions in an average game than we do. Where we fall short is getting offensive rebounds. Only Robert Taylor and Treg Setty seem at all interested in it.

I'm surprised by the underdog line. I bet it will be a pick em by tip.

ps - If this game were held in Erie, PA...we'd still outnumber them. If it were in Buffalo, they MIGHT outnumber us.
I'm showing we are giving 1.5 points.

Were you just thinking of Robert Tractor Traylor?

The stats may show that, but when we lose, we routinely get abused on both ends of the floor in rebounding.

BG is headed to Dayton if they win this whole thing, right?

Probably but they might sneak into a 15 seed or one of the higher 16 seeds.

That brings up an interesting question. If you are a 16 seed do you want to play the play-in game or do you want to just go straight to playing the #1 seed?

Simmons played 39 minutes vs. NIU ..why so many?...
Because he was carrying the team and because he has great stamina and will still be strong for Buffalo and beyond.
Very, very few kids can play the whole game for (a potential) three games in three days. At point guard. In the end of year, tournament, win or go home situation.

Plus we had a huge lead for much of the game.

Would giving him two or three breaks for a minute or two such that he only played 33-34 minutes have really cost us the game? Is it really such a bad idea?

I'd want to go straight to playing the #1 seed. More time to rest and game plan for what's most likely your most difficult game of the season. You only have one day of rest after the play-in game, and you have to travel from Dayton to wherever your first round game is.

I'm taking the play-in game. You're almost guaranteed to lose to the #1 seed anyway, no matter how much prep time. At least with the play-in game you get a chance to notch an NCAA tournament win under your belt.

Doug's a big kid, not quite a Tractor though. We'll call him the Radio Flyer.

I'd go play in also. In addition to the potential win, it also would get an additional win share / payout.

Good luck today everyone. I have a feeling it's going to be another close one just like last time. In my opinion one of the two coaches in this game should've had COTY.

Drawing fouls is going to be your biggest key. The Bulls racked up a ton of them last night and if the same happens, I don't see us winning.
Thanks for the posts, R. Johnson.

Guys, we can't judge a fan base by a couple of dumb posts about travel, etc.

I say go at Willie Connor and try to get him in foul trouble. HeS arguably their most dangerous player.

He's also arguably their streakiest. Looking over his game logs, he has had lots of very low point total games (12 single digit scoring games) and a high mark of 28 (4 games over 20 points). So who really knows which Willie Connor we get? Hopefully not the 28 point version again.

Sounds like he's kind of our Kenny Kaminski in that way.

Randy Quaid's reaction in that scene is how I like to imagine our resident C.P.A. if/when we win the MACC in football.

I think you have confused the team with Monroe. Monroe wanted Buffalo, which I thought was foolish. And I wish I wasn't right on that one.

Facebook reminded me that today is the anniversary of this post:

"Flight to Nashville - $300, tickets to the game- $50, teaching Michigan a lesson in Ohio geography - priceless!!!"

Let's do it again today...

Kron already up double digits on BGSTDU.

Let's make it another classic Akron-Ohio final. Take care of bidness against Beefs tonight first. This will NOT be a gimme. Hopefully we saved a few 3s after the barrage from last night.

Will be key to keep Campbell out of foul trouble (as always) but also KK/Setty/Taylor and maybe even Block need to help keep Buffalo off the boards (Block had 8 big ones last night).

Also, we need to keep the pressure up on O with dribble drives and feeding the post so we can get them in foul trouble and make a living at the FT line like we did in Athens. Especially with potentially tired legs for jump shots, getting to the FT line is clutch.

Off to the start everyone feared. Cold from the floor and Buff is getting offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Buff was on an 11-0 run, but we found some points and now down one.

We gotta shore up the boards.
