Monmouth could still get an At Large. I'm hoping they do. If anyone has earned it, they have.
Jay Bilas agrees, kind of surprisingly. Dick Vitale, doing a later game last night, said they should as well, not surprisingly.
In fact, Vitale bemoaned the fact that .500 teams from big conferences get invites over 25-win teams from smaller conferences. He said that how big schools set up their non-conference schedules is keeping the smaller schools from getting the chance to put together impressive non-con wins needed to get a look on selection Sunday.
Maybe if guys like Vitale start saying this, real change could occur in the selection process. I think he's right. Look at UNC losing at NIU, and Monmouth beating UCLA, even Akron at Arkansas. I think it's proven that mid-majors can play well against "bigger" schools given the shot. Besides that, who in the heck wants to watch the 8th place team from a P5 conference (besides that conference and its fans), that's 18-12, and 8-10, play in the NCAA Tournament? It's as bad as two 6-6 teams in a participation bowl.
Dickie V said this last night during semi-final of WCC tourney. Discussed it again in more detail tonight during WCC title game. Said a team finishing 8-8 in a big conference doesn't deserve an invite over a Gonzaga or Monmouth or Valpo. I remember he was a big advocate for the MAC getting a second team in back when it deserved an at-large.

FL State beat Boston College in the first round of the ACC Tournament. 2yrs ago JC won 25 games in a season, today he lost his 25th game of the season.

My other Alma Matter,F.D.U.,won the N.E.C. last night.
They'll be going dancing for the first time since 2005.
Based on their conference, they'll most likely end up in Dayton as a "First Four".

The Valley final last Sunday was definitely a great primer for the tournament. Washpun's shot was one that UNI fans will talk about for a long, long time and I think he is a player who could lead them to a couple of nice upsets in the Dance. The way it so dramatically went in gave me a Leon Williams 2005 flashback.
Felt bad for Evansville to lose that way. They have a nice team who won the CIT last year. Hope they get a NIT bid since Wichita State will likely get an at large to the NCAA, making them, in my opinion, next in line should the NIT take a Valley team (which they should).
That being said, did anyone else see the commercial the Valley aired on CBS a few times? Made the MAC commercial look award winning. I am not a video production expert in the least but man did it look bad.

lots of action on Friday- Marshall and Norfolk St lost in the Semifinals and St Bonaventure and Tulsa lost in the Quarterfinals. Jackson St won its Semifinals game and is the only OOC opponent still alive, they play #4Southern in the SWAC Finals tonight.
