Just speaking for myself here but......

I will cheer for Ohio University in anything it competes in, with gusto.

I don't care if it is tiddlywinks against Muskingum University in a hotel lobby.

Sure, I would much prefer to see us in the NCAAs or even the NIT but as long as our team is suiting up to play games, I am going to care and cheer, regardless of the level.

Jaaron Simmons now has 260 assists on the season. Not to jinx it, but barring something unexpected, Jaaron will break the current record of 263 (DJ Cooper 2010-2011). Jaaron has played 33 games thus far, DJ played 35 in 10-11.

OK, academic powerhouses, financially strapped schools you mentioned, Kent St, LSU, Colo St...we're still about 50+ short.
I'm sure some other BA folks know of others in their areas who declined. I'm pretty sure that there lots of schools in lesser conferences that aren't willing to foot the $40,000 or $80,000 bills for hosting the first 2 rounds.
Kent said it would turn down all post-season offers because of its injury situation. Most of the "power" schools won't do anything other than the NCAA or the NIT.

This is a new trend. In the early years of the CBI power schools entered all the time.

Look at the list of title games:

2009 Oregon State UTEP

finding teams for these tournaments is a desperate, mad scramble. They don't have the time to go down the list 1 team at a time while waiting for each to answer. They probably send out 50 or more invites and take the 16 best they can get in a very short time frame.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think anyone here thinks the CBI is a major tournament or is in the least bit prestigious. There's only one tournament going on right now that anyone is really excited about and it sure isn't this one.

That being said, I think most of the positive posters are merely saying this is a good experience for the team and it's a couple more home games, that's all. I don't understand all the nay-saying about this tournament; we know its minor at best and that's OK. This young team still needs game experience together and this is a nice way of providing it, that's all. Nothing more nor nothing less.
Amen.

And the win over Albany is probably our best win of the year, ranking wise. Glad we got to play it.
At the risk of starting a rumble if the New Yorkers are still lurking:

The Buffalo win scores better in most rankings but only barely. Some rankings do have Ohio as a top 100 basketball team. You're hard pressed to find any that have either Buffalo or Albany in there. They exist but they are outlier rankings. Albany was a clear #2 in their league but it is one of the weakest D1 leagues. The MAC was pretty decent but a muddled mess as it so often is these days. Not many of the top MAC teams got into the top 100 because of parity. In many cases only Akron did.

So basically considering what is left Ohio isn't getting a top 100 win this year. I'd bet that is unusual. Particularly in a year where we had a pretty good record. We didn't take many losses to bad teams either.

I'd look for the MAC to have three or four teams in the top 100 next year. I'll be disappointed if Ohio is not at least that good.

I do like that our win over FGCU went from being a good win, to not a good win and then back to a good win.

Based on our opening game, Treg wants to play. That's reason enough to play.

Here's a look at the 1st Round scoreboard with RPI in parenthesis-

90 Albany(107)
94 Ohio(82)

84 Morehead St(127)

Home teams finished 7-1. Only home loss was Siena to Morehead on Tuesday.

what I can't figure out is why they scheduled 4 of the top 6 teams to play each other in the first round.

How is Seattle with a losing record and on paper the worst team in the tournament getting to host back to back games against 21 win teams?

I was thinking about this. My best guess was that they wanted to guarantee the first round games were good matchups and not risk a high seed beating a bad team, then playing another bad team who upset a good team... That way, you maybe get more fans for game 1? Although really, is anyone attending a CBI first round game that concerned about who the opponent is?

Just a question. I tend to like sagarin for ranking teams, others use other rankings. Do you think RPI's are a better measure for evaluating teams strength, etc?

So where is the UNC Greensboro vs. UNC Wilmington (or designated hated college) trash talk? I'm missing the banter between our friends from New York.

UNC Greensboro was trending better toward the end of the season. They delivered a 15 point beat down on Chattanooga on the road. This game won't be a gimme, just like our MAC games against Miami and BGSU weren't gimmes.

I think that UNC-Pembroke is the polarizing institution....some junior institution in Chapel Hill is always chasing their coattails.

Exactly, record has nothing to do with who hosts, it is wholly decided by who is willing to pay up to host. They get a lot of teams who say they'll be in it if they don't have to host to avois those costs.

Just make fun of the way they do barbecue or say K.C. or Texas does it better and watch'em descend upon us.

My quick research shows that Clemson, K-State, Northwestern, Mississippi, Marquette and Stanford all chose to skip any tourney that wasn't the NCAA or the NIT; Georgetown and NC State chose not to extend postseason because of injuries; and Boise St declined the CBI and CIT for financial reasons, and Vegas because of a lack of big-name schools. Most of these decisions aren't steadfast policies but are dependent on each year's circumstances. Also, a consideration is that many of the 50-150 ESPN BPI teams have losing records anyway, and either aren't considered or just don't want to extend the season.

Siena went down to Morehead St. I seriously think OUr guys have about a 50/50 chance to be the CBI champion.

The real question is do you put up a banner for that? :)
We have a banner up for winning a "preseason" tournament - so why not for any post season tournament?
We're in pretty good company as far as winning that preseason tournament. Winning at O$U, at UVA, then taking two at Madison Square Garden is not something many MAC teams will ever match. I'm proud of that banner.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NIT_Season_Tip-Off#Past_cha...
First let me say that is a solid preseason tournament and one to be proud of! Second I don't think that banner hangs in the rafters now. Since banners were updated I noticed it's no longer there.

If so, that has to be a huge disappointment for Vermont. They hosted a first round game, maybe no fans showed up? Now they have to fly to the other coast to play Seattle. Just another reason to show your support by going to the Convo and buying a ticket to watch your Bobcats , no matter who the opponent is! We need to show we want more home games in the post season, if the opportunity is there. It would be a tragic thing if we had to play UNCG on the road. Go Ohio!

Can't wait to see what the final figures are for the cost to the post season opportunity fund for this "tournament." What a waste of money.

Alan, my understanding is that the athletic dept is still receiving payment units for our recent NCAA wins. Does that affect your view on whether this CBI is worthwhile?
