Alan, after your bitching about this tourney, don't be showing up in the Convo. Call me and I will give you score updates.
You should know enough about basketball to understand the value of game experience. I am very surprised that you have this view of the CBIT. Will not waste time reviewing the positives for you. If you do not "get it" by now, I can't help ya ! Go Bobcats ! Survive and advance !

If we had further basketball budget, what would we spend it on? What things would raise the program..what have other schools spent on that raised their achievements? And what are the approximate costs?

I wasn’t planning on going to the Albany game because I didn’t want to support this tourney, but a friend said I shouldn’t look at it that way and think about supporting the team who you supported all year. And they want to play. So I went but almost asked for my money back the way we were playing, but it did end an exciting game.

But in all candor, I’d rather hang a Women’s NIT banner. No contest.

Borna is right about one thing. These guys have been in a routine since the fourth grade. One or two or three or five more practices and three games will not change much. They are what they are. Only the hard work in April May June July and August will make them better.

What about hard work and real game experience in March ?????? I would argue that this game experience can be the best "work" and improvement opportunities that you can get !

And some people are stuck in the past checking a newspaper for their scores! There's a big new electronic world out there. Your just looking for something to complain about with this one but then again what's new. If the money is in the budget then go for it.
Not complaining just stating an opinion. Looks like all of these open seats for Monday's game also state a pretty strong opinion - lack of interest and a recognition of the relative worth and value of this tournament.

http://ev7.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?t...
If they were truly "meaningless", there would be no one in the stands. Let them play.
I haven't purchased my tickets yet and I will there as will at least 5 other people I know so if your posting a link to show tickets available the only thing that proves is you know how to post a link.

Just don't come. Vote with your pocket book and by all means boycott the tournament.

Got my ticket and will bring 3 people with me. If you don't go the game, you aren't boycotting the CBI, you are showing a lack of support for Ohio and our team. The game against Albany was one of the most exciting games of the year, if you didn't go, too bad for you!

Just don't come. Vote with your pocket book and by all means boycott the tournament.

Since it came up, I thought I would let those who were interested know a bit more about the Specialized Studies degree. I will admit that I am not aware of any changes to the program since I left, but I will share my experience from +20 years ago.

As my college career was coming to a close and with me having no particular interest in the traditional majors provided by the university, I was thankful that there was a program available that would allow me to "create" my own. I was able to write a justification and then list the classes that I had already taken as well as the classes I planned to take. I then submitted it for approval and, as you can guess, the rest is history.

While I do believe in the benefit of traditional programs with straight and clear paths to the desired degrees and job opportunities students seek, I also believe that having the ability to create non-traditional degrees is important as well. Flexibility for both the students and university to adapt to the ever quickening changes and demands that present themselves to the world at large is paramount. (Insert Bcat2's John F. Kennedy quote about change here.)

Hope that sheds some light on the subject of Specialized Studies and as always, GO BOBCATS!
I graduated in 2008 with a B.S.S. and it was the best choice I made as a student. I had a A.S from Hocking in Wildlife Management and returned to OU but OU did not have a degree program that encompassed what I really wanted in terms of my desired career path. I was able to combine classes from Geography, Biology, Plant Biology, and GIS to create a unique program to benefit me. It was actually MORE demanding than several established degree tracts and has since benefited me in my current career path. As a matter of fact, some well regarded schools in Ecology/Natural Resources have since developed a major very similar to the one I created.

So Ohio has to pay to host two rounds. Is there a payout to the tournament winner? Final Four? Can the costs be recouped?

Game day so perhaps we can shift discussion to actual action in the court! Just a thought. I'm wondering if Setty plays out of his head again? Seems like he has not lost once ounce of motivation. When Ohio wins tonight there are some decent opponents left. Nevada (20-13), Morehead State (20-12), Duquesne (17-16) and Vermont (22-13).

I think there's value in gaining experience in a tournament that's single elimination (until the finals). We have a youngish team that doesn't have that much time playing meaningful minutes together and we just lost in the MAC semis. If we want to get the dance in the next few years, experience advancing in any end of year tournament setting will turn out to be highly valuable.

Don't look now but I believe on the men's side Ohio is the only Ohio college that's still in a postseason tourney.

And, I will close with this one: practice and the off season is when you work hard to get better as a player no matter the sport. The games are tests to see if the practice and prep has sunk in and made you good enough to win.

FWIW they are still winning. Your (sic ;0) point is well taken. The extra practices they get playing this tourney and the extra prep are contact hours of 20 a week. As soon as they lose they are back to 4 staff contact hours a week. Working offensive and defensive philosophies and getting game prep is beneficial to younger guys and even vets who are under a 2nd year staff (especially considering what could not get done in their first year). You know I believe ball players are made from march to November....it's still March. Got time to win this.

How do they determine who hosts those games next? If I am recalling correctly, they "re-seed" everything after this round.

I'm guessing it's a matter of who again wants to pay to host a game. Then they simply match up home and away teams.

While it does cost a lot to host a game, I'm sure much of the money is made up in ticket and concession sales, though I realize there still will be a big deficit. Does the road team have to pay all of its transportation and hotel costs?

What about the championship? Is that at one site? What if both teams want to host?

Just a reminder that the official CBI press release mentions that the semifinals will be played March 23. Wow, no prep time for sure. And the finals will have 1 team hosting 2 games. Not sure about the format as to wether it's 1 home , 1 away and then game 3 ( if needed) back to first host.

I can see both points of view. While I think these tournaments are kind of laughable because it's not necessarily teams that deserve to play in the postseason...it's more of teams that want to keep playing......I still think there is some value to them.

Winning a championship, no matter what, is a good feeling. Look at Murray State. They won this thing (or the CIT..can't remember) a few years ago. The very next season they ripped off a 27-or-so-game win streak, got ranked and were in the running for an at-large bid to the tournament.

They certainly parlayed a successful run in the CIT/CBI to a really awesome following season.

I think that's a potential for Ohio. With everyone minus Setty back, a championship would be a nice consolation prize and a confidence boost heading into the off-season.

I really questioned whether or not Ohio really wanted to be playing the way they played in that 1H vs. Albany. They were a little better in the 2H.

We'll see about them tonight. This is a game (on paper) they should win quite handily. 10 point faves.....they should roll.

More about which team wants to be there and is engaged.

And I'm pretty sure Arkley touched on it...it's something like $35k to host a game. You pay and get to keep all the gate/concessions/etc. You can do that for two games. You DO NOT pay to host a 3rd game. But the CBI will keep all the gate/concessions/etc in that 3rd game. Same for finals.

The finals are a best-of-three....I believe it's a 1-2 format.....Game 1 at Team A....Game 2 & 3 at Team B. All three are on TV...CBS Sports Network I believe?
