Can't say I'm surprised. Hopefully he can find a better fit. Good luck Wadly.

I wonder if he has graduated and will be immediately eligible or not?

I think he could instantly move to a team like FIU or Florida Atlantic and contribute right away.

Hate to see anyone go, especially a guy like Wadley who had clearly improved and early season I thought he would be apart of the rotation.

At the same time, with so many needs on the roster and so few scholarships, this is a Win for SP considering Wadley apparently had no role on the roster. Gives us the ability to now try to fill 2 needs as Taylor is the guy doing what Wadley wanted to do and as Senior next year there was no need for him to bye time on the bench.

You are right. Wadly showed glimpses of being a solid contributor but hadn't been able to put it together consistently and probably wasn't in line to get much playing time in the future. This is probably in the best interest of both Wadly and the team. He can play a bigger role elsewhere.

I liked his attitude. Never heard anything about Wadley feeling ill will or pouting. Always gave good effort. I was always intrigued by how much he played to start the year. Remember that double-double against NCAA Tourney team Florida Gulf Coast????

But an earlier poster is right...Wad would have sat the bench and basically kept us from getting another "Saul" recruit in. Now, with Carter we have a great start. We have two schollies. How about a transfer who can sit out a year and learn like Kenny and Jaaron did and then an athletic guard like Culver? I wouldn't mind two freshmen or even a grad student. Now they have flexibility.

Agree with your post. I always liked the guy's infectious smile. Wish him the best.

Two in addition to Carter (so three for the class)? or two total - one in addition to Carter?

Carter plus two more. Carter fills one of the voids created by Wadly, Treg Setty and Ryan Taylor.

Id have guessed Wadley or Harley, but with all the team harmony vibes thought maybe nobody. Could we see another before the off season ends?

Those are the two I guessed on last year, and they both stayed, so I assumed they were going to stay through graduation at this point.

Agree with all the posts giving him credit for being a contributor when given the chance. My perception is that he was a great teammate who simply wasn't gonna play next year. I always thought this coming year would be his year to really blossom into a really good player. I hope he gets that chance and takes advantage of the remaining eligibility in the way Setty did this year.

This puts the team in a situation where they're really, really going to be depending on Dozier or Carter to play significant minutes in some games. I'm anxious to see what they can do!

I've got to think that this announcement timing was related to the signing period which begins tomorrow. Would cause a lot of confusion if we signed a couple more players and only had 1 opening.

He'd have to sit out a year at those schools.

Then he'll get the redshirt year he probably should have had by now.

My only concern is whether or not Saul had an inkling this might happen and planned (recruited) accordingly. Otherwise, it's a little late in the game to be serious contenders for high school players. I'm going to assume that Saul and staff planned for this possibility.

There are always a handful of guys holding out late. I feel like we signed Jerome Tillman in May of his senior year.

I think good recruiters are always keeping in contact with uncommitted players even if they don't have an open scholarship or their position is full. You never know when someone might leave.

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the incoming players, if they're a frosh, was red-shirted from the start. There is also the real potential that they just hold onto this scholarship for next fall.

Was Wadly released because he wanted to be released or was it because that was the option presented to him?

I don't know but I could see either or both being the case. I pulled for him, but it was clear that his PT next year would be Very minimal with the rise of Taylor through this past season.

Hopefully Wadly is able to play next year. Is there a more obnoxious rule in College Athletics than players having to sit out a year? Never heard a good reason for why students have to sit out....

If they did not then the $ wars would only be escalated at the P5 level - serves the interest of the P5. Also levels the playing field of others - per competition - nothing "student athlete" related though.....

Here's a good reason: without this rule, it would be open season for schools to continually recruit from and raid the rosters of other schools.
