Pretty recent ....fanbase just getting the news while I was busy this afternoon.

http://wrightstate.proboards.com/thread/2946/donlon-fired
From that thread:

"I hope we don't get any of these losers. We need winning coaches that expect to be going to the NCAA every year."

The brilliant fans are everywhere aren't they?

Great move for both parties. Dixon is a TCU grad and did just about everything he could at Pitt. TCU is making moves to be a bigger player in basketball (committed AD and new arena) and they've got a good enough recruiting base in the Dallas area.

So who goes to Pitt? Dambrot might get a look.
Just peaked at the video below re: TCU's new facility. Impressive. Good for Jamie Dixon. That conference just got even tougher than it already is.

I'll be stunned if Dambrot is on Pitt's radar.
I would too, but the JC move to BC was rather stunning as well, so who knows.

Pitt's not that far from Akron and it's in the ACC. And wasn't Dambrot interviewed for Duquesne once? It's not THAT unreasonable.

Dambrot will not get the Pitt job. JC got the BC job imo because of the BC's AD(formerly at Polo's and Kakhi U) and had familiarity of Christian from Kent St. Even with that thought it was a real stretch for BC to give him the job and I'm sure there's plenty of buyer's remorse at BC.

Pitt thinks they are a national power and all they lack is a really strong coach with superlative recruiting skills. The Pitt AD Barnes said any AD worth his salt keeps a short list of coaching candidates at the ready and he by at least his public appearances doesn't seem heartbroken that Dixon is leaving.

I'll be the first to eat my words if Dambrot even gets a sniff, but I just don't see that happening.

Fascinating stuff going on with a couple coaches the last couple days.

Sean Miller was reported by a Pitt radio station to be "50/50" taking the Pitt job, with contract details being the hitch. He's since tweeted publicly he's not leaving Zona.

Then there's Mick Cronin interviewing with UNLV. In an interesting radio segment with a Vegas radio station, Cincy's Mo Egger was told about how bad the Mountain West is despite a number of good coaches, and decent resources. Cited the BYU departure a few years ago as a primary problem they haven't dealt with, and that they look like a one bid league going forward right now. It sounded awful familiar to our frustrations with being a one bid league.

A big factor against Dambrot getting any consideration for the Pitt job is the same thing that haunted Dixon. Failure to advance in the NCAA tourney. Dixon couldn't get Pitt to a final four although he made the dance 11 of the last 13 years. Dambrot hasn't got the NCAA resume Dixon has in fact Dambrot hasn't won an NCAA tourney game.

Pitt thinks it's way above hiring a MAC coach with zero tourney success.

Since it is the season maybe we can do a coaching carousel thread and keep em all under one heading. That way the board does not get muddled up with multiple TOS to threads and those that don't want to partake of the commonly accepted carousel alert does not have to open the thread

I can start with Johnny Dawkins

UAB Coach H heads off to Stanford. Cronin staying put for now. I think the one bid league concept got him in a bad way. AD said she had the contract in his hands when he left yesterday....but they did not get it b ack and therefore ..have moved on..

in 12 seasons at Akron Dambrot is just 2-8 in post season tournaments with 1st rd wins in the NIT in '06 and '08. What high major would be impressed with a coach that's never won an NCAA Tournament game and hasn't got past the 1st round of any post season tournament in 8 years?

And in spite of getting his team to the conference tournament championship game 8 times in the last 9 seasons he's only managed to win it 3 times.

He's not likely to be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame, but - after Miami, NC State, Arizona State - it seems pretty clear that he has earned a goodly measure of respect in college land.

Somewhat off topic, but NCAA/NIT/CBI/CIT records aside, if Saul took us to the MAC Title game 8 times in 9 years, would we be okay with that knowing we might only win 3-4 of them? I can say that I would.

Now you can see why Miami had success and was respected during many of those years. Lots of coaching talent on the bench for several years. Honestly, it might be one of Charlie's shortcomings that there wasn't someone within the program to take over after his retirement. Too bad he's not still around to help that program.

On Sendek, do we think he'll get Santa Clara back to a contending level in the WCC? If he did, that's a conference that's getting better.

We'd be somewhat happy but getting slaughtered in the NCAA tournament by an average of 24 points would temper that enthusiasm considerably.

Ohio is currently 6-2 in MAC Title games, I would not be ok with losing it 5 times in 9 years.

Van, hence why I said cast aside the Tournament results. No one wants the Zippy results in the NCAA/NIT. I'd love to have their success in getting to the big Saturday night game in Cleveland. I'd give up losing half the time in those games in we were in that game almost every year. Not to say I'd wish for, or hope for losing - just that getting to that game often means you're one of the league's best. That has to be part of the long term goal.

wow...ray gets the axe. That is surprising. McCallum will find an asst job pretty quick I would think. Went from Houston to IU in a hurry when Sampson needed someone to help Holman, Bassett and those guys stay eligible...along with Sendy they assisted Kelvyn raise IU to new heights.

Bacari is a Detroit grad. A beast when he played there, that has been waiting for the right job to open up. That would be a great get for him.

Bacari has appeared on a number of mid-major potential head coach lists in recent years. I'll be surprised his alma mater does not hire him.

This is something I've been wondering about in the back of my mind for several weeks! I'm surprised there's no news to be found.
