Is this the team that worked on defense this pre-season? Not seeing much difference.

Is this team not who we thought they were? Looks like we are just going through the motions.

Here's hoping Coach Phillips woke everyone up at halftime. The first half sleep walking experiment was a little unnerving.

We were favored by 16.5. I don't get where the team is right now. 13 minutes to show what they're made of.

In light of our performance tonight, may OU_ and I reach a compromise and consider espn3 AS "HACKS?"

Years ago (I believe I have referred to this incident before) in the early part of the season when the late Coach Rick Majerus was at Ball State he went apoplectic getting a technical maybe he was even throw out, I can't really remember. After the game, he said his team was too full of promise to play that way, and he wasn't going to have any part of it. Far be it for me to give Coach Phillips any advice, but if I could I would show him a tape of that game. I believe that was the Ball State team that made it to the Elite 8 and gave UNLV one of their closest games of the tournament.

Forget coaching, a lot of this is on the team. Any good high school team let alone Division I college team should be able to size up an opponent early in the game. It doesn't' look like we have that ability or killer instinct. Hopefully we will get it very soon!

I agree about the early killer instinct. We led Iona by 12 early and never hit the jugular.

Can't remember seeing a team score that many layups (many uncontested) and 7 footers against us. That's on the coaches and the players. Finish off the drive? Free throws? Effort? This was a loss on a neutral court.

I thought the word "hack" was referring to the posters (myself included) on this board. ;-) Now, to the subject at hand, I fully expect a 20-point win tonight for two main reasons: 1. We are at home. 2. We will be made as hornets to prove the last two outings were flukes. 3. Milwaukee ain't that good. [Note Monroe-like arithmetic 2=3.]
Win by 2.

***sigh***

Saul said postgame this team is close to clicking and when they do, it'll be scary.

Sorry. I don't see it.

What I saw in-person from the Convo tonight was an unmotivated, disinterested, sleepwalking effort.

Simmons looked like he'd rather be anywhere but playing other than short stretch midway thru second half.

I'm tired of Campbell. He scores 85% of the time he gets ball in post (maybe exaggerated a bit) but yet he insists on camping out in corner looking for 3ptrs. And he continues to make stupid fouls. Just looks disengaged.

The defense is atrocious. It's not that they aren't trying....they just suck at it. Milwaukee was barely slowed when they tried to get in the lane. Very little resistance.

1-6 3ptr second half. And that's supposed to be their strength. Ha! Dartis & Kaminski were invisible in second half. If they're not chucking threes, they do little else.

I love Taylor, Carter & Culver. Culver is limited offensively because he has bad outside shot. Taylor hustles his ass off and is serious post presence. Carter is much more impressive in person. He's much bigger than I thought. He's going to be good.

This team has potential....but they aren't tough and don't look interested in getting tough.

Saul thinks they're close to clicking. I'll believe it when I see it.

Looks like another Friday night March loss in Cleveland to me right now.

Hope they change that thought.

. . .
In retrospect, I guess I'm the hack. I was wrong on all three of my two points. I don't think even Monroe has ever been that good. ;-)

Seriously, this team looked very discombobulated (to use a technical coaching term). I do not know what to attribute that to. I'm going to wait and see how they respond to Cleveland State before making any more pronouncements about this team. But at least they got revenge over George Tech!

Hmm....2 point win eh? If it were March on a neutral court I'd say survive and advance and put it behind you. In December at home that's....not good.

My take away from the last couple weeks of games is - man, how BAD is Georgia Tech this year? If this team could take care of business on their home floor, they might rival BC for going winless in the ACC this year. Ouch.

I hate to be the skunk at the party, but BC beat Auburn (on a neutral court) so does that make Georgia Tech the worst team in the ACC? I hope not, I would like to think that victory meant something.

Sadly, by March I'm guessing it will be a win over the worst the ACC has to offer. How they won AT VCU is beyond me

I can't believe a bunch of college kids didn't play better in front of a disinterested crowd right after finals and a week+ before Xmas. For shame!

this board is becoming insufferable.

I never bought into the "lifeless crowd argument" dictates how you should play against a below average opponent. Not buying it. Fans are allowed to be disappointed when there isn't improvement from game to game. I don't think Simmons walked on the court...saw a lifeless crowd and said, "Hey guys...no crowd...we can just coast." And this board isn't insufferable. Just smart fans who crave for OHIO to take it to another level consistently.

I agree that they looked disinterested. I was there tonight. I didn't see the two losses. I hope they didn't look the same way. I even thought that Saul looked mad tonight which I rarely see so it is a strange comment.

I do remember Larry Hunter making almost exactly the same comment on Jan 29, 1994. I thought he was crazy. Then a 10-7 team ran off 13 in a row.

Aside from the fact that team had the GOAT at OU - it also had serious leadership from it's upperclassmen in Floyd/Greenwood/Boals/Reese (something I haven't seen a ton of from Campbell/Simmons/KK) and a crap load of talent in the underclassmen with Simmons/Johnson/Terry/Ford.

To heck with comparing this team to the 2012 Bobcats in the other thread - trying to compare them to the 1994 version is even worse talent-wise IMO.

The MAC as a whole had a lot more talent then. Running 13 off in conference now would not be quite the feat as that. This team doesn't look like it has that in it even still but who knows.

But even given the tougher schedule it was odd in retrospect to think that they started 10-7. Nobody would have seen the regular season and tourney MAC titles coming or a preseason NIT championship even with the talent that they had.

Maybe Phillips knows what Hunter did. Maybe he's just talking through his hat. Maybe he doesn't know what he is taking about. I think a couple of weeks ago a lot of experts were starting to think that was one of the better teams in the country outside the power 6. It doesn't look it now at all.

Good take...I think you left out Estes. And we got a crappy draw against the General that year in the tourney. Any other 12-5 game we win.
