Quick question for those living in the US. If I get a slingbox through my sister's house via Annandale, Va, is ESPN 3 the same in Cincy or Atlanta or wherever? There aren't regional ESPN 3s are there? My brother does live in Cincy but for various reasons, I would rather go the DC route...

I think the channel depends on the carrier.

This helps Ohio more with wrestling a sport picking up broadcasts. The wrestling only schools won't have meets produced at home either so just a few MAC schools would be getting all the broadcasts.

I hope for one day to be able to watch ESPN 3 through TWC without having to have either a satellite or cable subscription. I'd drop DirecTV and go Sling tomorrow if I knew I could still use ESPN 3 without it.

SlingTV is the "cable" provider, which gives access to ESPN and ESPN2 events via ESPN3. It's basically like getting cable through the Internet.

Oh man I feel like an idiot. I've been sick of overpaying for DirecTV and the channels plus sports package on SlingTV are exactly what I watch.

So just to confirm, if I had TWC internet and SlingTV (through an Amazon Fire Stick) I should be able to get ESPN3/WatchESPN?

Yes. ESPNU, ESPN News, Golf Channel and SEC Network are part of the $5 add-on sports package, so you'd have to get that to get those games.

Also, be aware you don't get local channels, which may broadcast much of the sports you want (though an antenna can do the trick for most people). But you also don't get regional sports networks like Fox Sports Ohio and STO. In order to get Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 and NBC Sports Network, you have to get the $25 Blue Package. It starts to add up, but a lot of people can get just about everything they want much cheaper.

I too am now seriously considering sling TV as an option. My question is this however concerning the $5 sports package. Since sling TV is a provider that will allow you to use the Watch ESPN app, is there a need to get the sports package to watch the ESPN channels or SEC network? Aren't all those available through the Watch ESPN app?

Only if you have those channels in the TV package you subscribe to. Otherwise, those games will show up, but if you click on to watch them, you'll be told you are not allowed access. I had that problem a couple times when I didn't have a TV package that did not include ESPNU.

Well now it looks like SlingTV is getting even more advanced. They have three different packages to start out with, then you can add more.

Blue Package - $20/month includes ESPN, ESPN2 (TNT and TBS for March Madness purposes)

Orange Package - $25/month includes FOX and NBC in select markets, Fox Sports in select markets, NFL Network, NBCSN, FS1, FS2 (TNT, TBS and TruTV for March Madness purposes)

Blue + Orange - $40/month all channels that they provide.

All in Sports Package includes NFL RedZone, ESPNU, SEC Network, ESPNNews, ESPN Goal line, and a ton of other stuff.

I'm definitely making the switch now. $40 plus the $5 sports package? Hell to the yes.

No CBS Sports Network. That could be an issue for Ohio games. You can't watch that free online unless you're cable/satellite subscriber correct?

Probably not worth the $80/month I'd save.

They have changed things quite a bit over time. Regional sports networks, according to your location, are available in the Blue package ($25). So you can get just about every sports channel you'd want for $30 by adding the sports pack, which also includes NFL Network now. What you don't get are NBA and MLB networks as well as CBS and ABC, but again, most people can the last two with an antenna.

They also offer deals like a Free Roku2, half off a Roku3 or a $89 Apple TV when you pay for 3 months. There are no contracts otherwise.

I thought I'd seen advertised a DVR-type thing available for SlingTV and other online streaming services, but I can't find it right now. DVR capabilities are not offered via Sling TV itself.

I agree - CBSSN does a great job with college hoops. And they have Allie, which doesn't hurt.
