But Tony absolutely refuses to fight for post position on defense. He allows easy passes into the post and then tries to rely on his great hands for strips and blocks. Which leads to easy buckets for the other team and foul trouble for Tony.
Exactly. He needs to play tough D before his man gets the ball down low. By then it's too late - an easy shot or a TC foul or both. Fight for position, deny the entry pass, make your man get the ball where he doesn't want to get the ball. Deciding to play tough D after your man gets the ball where he wants it is too late.
Good stuff. Been my gripe with AC all four years....just seems to lack that hard-nosed intensity (on both ends of court at times) that a lot of those guys from the 2012 team had. That was a gritty team....much like their coach (Groce)
Seemed that Groce demanded that defense and toughness. Doesn't appear to be case with Saul so far.
Is there a stat for "drawing fouls". What real in the paint studs do?
Ken Pomeroy has a fouls drawn per 40 metric. Here's how Ohio stacks up:
Taylor - 6.5
Campbell - 5.4 (ranks 304th nationally)
Laster - 4.9
Simmons - 4.4
Carter - 4.1
Culver - 3.7
Dartis - 3.5
Block - 3.4
Kaminski - 2.1
Taylor is a 50% FT shooter. Lots of good that metric does.
If he makes one of two the other night, overtime.
If he makes both, WKU loses even with the refs screwing Ohio.
