Gonna be a tall order to get there, but man, what I wouldn't give to see Jaaron get a chance to play in the big dance. I could absolutely see him giving a high major nightmares in the first couple rounds.

He doesn't recruit players with class. They showed their colors in the last minute.

38 points on 16 shots is amazingly efficient, and 10 rebounds on top of that.

My non-Simmons key to the game:

Block on Cheatum instead of seeing the toasting of another Bobcat who will remain nameless, Block forced Cheatum to work a bit harder. Zips say Cheatum was a bit ill and perhaps that added to the lack of touch he showed in the JAR.

Good effort Block...

Bobcats played well. They team rebounded especially Simmons. We cut down the second chance shots and took better care of the ball and made free throws in the second half. Simmons with a sensational game. Attacked the rim and knocked down the deep ball. Big Carter and Taylor did a nice job on the big man. They got him into foul trouble and Bobcats attack the rim getting into the double bonus. Solid win. This team has shown the ability to bounce back after tough losses. We played good defense. Defense keeps this team in games.

Block got under his skin and into his head like a pesky fly that won't go away.

Defense was good all first half. Then went to sleep first six minutes or so of the second half as Akron was getting--and making--the shots they wanted.

The whirlpool should be reserved for Carter. He banged and banged and banged with I. Johnson as long as he was in the game. He'll be black and blue tomorrow. Johnson is difficult to figure out. He has as much talent as any big man in the MAC since Trent, but after 4 years he has still refused to get in shape. If he had worked as hard as Tony to improve physically, there is little doubt in my mind he could play in the NBA. I guess he can have a comfortable career overseas, but what might have been...

Taylor played tough too, coming up with a couple big rebounds and making his free throws. I still think Doug is a work in progress, and was hurt developmentally by his H.S. injury, which forced him to miss his senior year.

Finally, I was at the game and, particularly in the first half, I thought something was wrong with Dartis. He just didn't look himself, wasn't active. I was wondering if he'd been sick. Played better in second half.

So happy for this team, didn't quit, kept fighting and took advantage of Akron mistakes. Made all but one of their free throws in second half!

As much as it pains me, time change of game matched up with a big competition my daughter has today. No problem I thought as I'll just watch it online at her event. Downloaded CBS Sports Ap and you need to be a Frontier or Cox subscriber. You kidding me? Ugh. Is it legal for anyone to give me that info so I can watch?
Given how the crowd size looks on TV, looks like the time change messed with about 5,000 people.
5000 more would have put us at 15,101.

It looked well under 10K from the shots they showed going into/out of commercials

I'll take the Cats and 6.5 points. But I have one request. Can we front the post entry pass at times? Jason has shown himself to be adept at preventing lobs over top, can he roll off the high hedge and front the big whoever every now and then? Or as much as possible? What am I missing? We have been toast in the post when bigs catch it deep.
Thank you Bobcats for that win. Thank you that I did not need the 6.5 points offered. Thank you for fronting the post. Thank you for playing hard and smart for 40 minutes. Thank you coach for calling the time out when kron's mini run put them up two possessions. Thank you for waking up the crowd a little bit.

And Jaaron, just thank you for everything.

I was only able to see the last 12 minutes of the first half and first four minutes of the second half. My observations:

We played with fine effort, especially on defense.

Simmons--my goodness...Played all 40 minutes and that stat line just bears repeating: 38 points, 10-16 from field, including 5-5 on three-shots, 13-16 from the free throw, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 3 turnovers.

Will anyone in college ball put up a better performance anywhere this year?

Please, please, please tell me that there was..."Is that not a scoreboard?!"... 'Winning team, 'akron' at the end! How was it?

I see that we closed the game on a 27-7 run. Very, very sweet.

There was, but it got lost/drowned out in all of the technicals nonsense. Akron completely lost their minds down the stretch - loved every minute of it.

after some of us were called out for our classless mocking of the nickname "Big Dog" on here it was humbling to watch the Akron players and coaches teach all of us about class at the end of the game. Lesson learned.

I laughed at that too. Today was a clinic on how NOT to show sportsmanship or class.

Some jerk in zips forum was mad that Player of the Year Big Dog got a double foul with a "bench stiff." People still have no clue how good JC is...GOOD!

Re attendance, it wasn't a good crowd to begin with, but the place gradually got more full. I looked around toward the end of the game and was pleasantly surprised at how full it had become. I'm guessing at around 8000 actual, with no shows accounting for the balance of the official attendance.

Noon start times in Athens are awful. Just awful...

I will refrain from TV soapbox here :)

As the Zips left the court into the tunnel under section 116, at least three of them yelled "f**k you" to the people in the first two rows, literally a Medicare-generation group of long time fans. You want to talk class---they have plenty of it but most of it is third class. One even jumped up toward the seats as if to intimidate the 65 year old woman standing there.
And, no, not anecdotal; it happened.
