Lots of guys between 6-10 and 7-3 remain in the portal.

Including Dikembe Mutombo's kid who is leaving Georgetown.

Did you know Elliott had an offer from Rice?

A nation will never have to "await" his grades to post. He can tutor the whole team if needed.

Rice University is ranked #17 out of 439 National Universities per US News.

Awesome. I wonder if it’s 6’11 give or take an inch. Meaning he could be 6’10 or 7’0. That could be someone like Abou Osmane or Bruce Zhang — who some staff follow. Probably too soon (also has a massive list of suitors) to be Langdon Hatton, since he just entered a few days ago.

Otherwise, probably someone we haven’t mentioned.

Isn’t that great Greencat. I love how a nation will never have to wait for Elijah’s grades. I’m a big fan of recruiting basketball players who go to class and don’t waste a scholarship for three years that greatly affects March success.

I've heard from a reliable source that AJB fits this description as well, and that he's a team leader off the court.

If we do get a center who is highly rated by MAC standards then this offseason will have gone about as well as we could have realistically hoped.

My gut says the 6'11 guy Boals is referencing is Ayden Evans.

Meaning when asked how we're going to address bigs this off-season he says we're getting a 6'9 and 6'11 guy. Searls and Evans.

Maybe I'm wrong. Don't shoot the messenger.

That thought is in the back of my head as well. Maybe SBH can confirm if he said he remembers Boals saying "transfers". Obviously, Evans is not a transfer.

Even if he was referring to Evans, we still have one schollie remaining and it’s apparent we’re still trying to add size. Although, I’m hoping for roster complete purposes, he means someone else is in the fold already.

Boals apparently said "2 transfers."

With everybody still trying to poach everybody else's players, I hope Boals continues to keep everything close to the vest.

An unexpected announcement out of left field about a new 6-11 guy at some random date and time would work just fine. A pleasant surprise at that.

Let's celebrate. The window to enter the portal has now closed. We made it without any big departures. Very few teams in any conference can say that.

We'll still hear of portal entrants in the coming days (not necessarily from Ohio) because the deadline pertains to a timestamped electronic communication to athletic department personnel. Texting a coach before last night's deadline would suffice and the player could still actually enter the portal tomorrow.

We've done remarkably well in retention. The only starter-worthy talent we have lost in the last several years was a 5th year guy that went to Virginia to play for his Dad's best friend and a guy that went on to be one of the best players in the nation for a final 4 team. Is it Athens, is it Boals, dumb luck? Probably all 3.

Ousmane visited Oklahoma State. So that's the level he's pursuing.

Green Bay's Elijah Walker to College of Charleston.

It's all 3, but it all starts with a HC with a vision and who establishes a culture.

He recruits guys who fit that culture, and part of that is guys who buy in to the team/family.

Throw in a beautiful campus, some decent success and a little luck and you have what we have.

Be grateful we have Boals!

While I love the Athens campus as much as the next guy, I believe this is becoming less and less of a factor in the NIL/portal era.

For sure. We have recruits coming to "The University of Ohio". They commit to the coaches/staff/players and $$$.

But once they're here, it can't hurt.
