This was discussed in the NCAA tourney thread as well. I’m with you guys. I’m a big Boals fan as everyone here knows, but this is one of the dumbest things he has ever done. Zero effing upside to these ridiculous tweets. The Sendy tweet was even worse in my opinion.

I just don’t get it. And I asked this on the other thread…was he drunk tweeting? Of course, we have no media that will actually ask him about the tweets.

My advice to Boals is to stop tweeting and get in the portal and bring in a 6’7 athletic wing who can play 25 minutes a game.

My bad, I haven’t even looked at the tourney thread. Didn’t see the Sendy tweet. Yea, I’m not sure on this. I imagine he realizes both were unnecessary and he definitely took the Miami one on chin. I’d also like to think this blows over after the weekend.

Back to portal talk — 6’7 wing and a big please.

Agree. Throw the phone in the drawer and dive into the portal. Now that Miami is off to the sweet 16, I bet his tweet gets more traction nationally.

Just really idiotic of Boals to do this. He should have "stayed in his lane" on this one.

While I agree with his opinion I’m not sure I’d post it on the Twitterverse for everyone to see. Like earlier comments in this thread, hopefully it blows over after this week but man if Miami gets to Elite Eight / Final Four they’ll be all over him. Tbh, makes me even more juiced up for the 23-24 season.

I agree with this, and I think that these tweets may indicate a little shift in Boals' attitude. At least, I've never heard him speak like this before. Someone needs to point out the hypocrisy of college athletics in this moment in time. Yes, paid athletes for a college sports program is hypocrisy in my book. It makes a mockery of the idea that athletes are in school to get an education and that playing their sport is just an extracurricular activity. Also, paying coaches $8 million a year is also hypocrisy, because it shows an unbalanced view of the value of a coach to an educational enterprise. There's a poster on here that says coaches should be paid a dean's salary; I'm not quite that extreme, but building athletic empires that rake in half a billion dollars a year just isn't something consistent with an educational enterprise. So, we've now compounded the hypocrisy, rather than diminished it. This house of cards won't last another decade. I'm actually kind of proud that our coach is calling it out.

Agreed. The quicker the NCAA just dissolves and turns into the "Semi Pros" and "D1-AA" or whatever it ends up, the better. The P5 will finally just break away in football and leave everyone else in the dust. Sadly, teams like Ohio can actually compete historically with the big boys in basketball, and they may end up being denied that opportunity going forward.

Then again, March Madness makes SO MUCH money, they may do an intra-league post-season tournament or something to try and keep the gravy train rollin.

Boals said literally none of what you just said and would jump at the opportunity to coach at any of those billion dollar athletic empires. You're just hearing what you want to hear.

The NCAA system has been hypocritical for decades now. For the life of me, I'll never understand why the straw that broke the camel's back for so many people is the players getting access to a small slice of the multi-billion dollar pie they play a huge part in creating. It wasn't the FBI investigation into corruption in basketball recruiting. It wasn't point shaving scandals. It wasn't UNC's sham education for athletes. It wasn't SMU football. No, all that's just collateral damage for a system worth fighting to keep.

But now that players are getting money in a legal, above-board way college sports are hypocritical. Don't understand it even a little bit.

reading the comments, one poster says they would still be there. Poster goes on to say that other P5 coaches are not thinking the same thing in the face of really good coaches who got out of the game the last few years.

It's never been amateur at the P5 level and to believe otherwise is naive. The NCAA can label it that way, but if they ever truly enforced the values they preach in their commercials to the masses every March, the power conferences would have almost no schools left for tournament play. Every once in a while though, they'll slap some small school on the wrist just to show they still have this illusion of power.

You folks are juding the entire body of Intercollegiate atheltics by the elite programs of two sports. Ignoring the tens of thousands of real student athletes who benefit greatly from the mission of college athletics.

My criticism of Boals is that he deleted it. I lose respect for people who don't stand behind what they said when people kick back. The "delete it because people are upset" way of thinking does not resonate with me. Either you say it because you believe it and wanted to say it...or you don't say it at all.

There's plenty of amateurism left in college sports. Just not at this level of college sports, which has become a multi-billion dollar industry.

There are a lot of people who seem to imply that their interest in college sports stems from the amateurism, but very few of those same people have a DIII bracket pool with their friends right now. It feels like there's a hope to have their cake and eat it, too.
