My basketball scouting skills apparently are ...not so good.

I thought he had a chance to be a rotation guy.

This is a shame, but I think he's just always going to struggle as a bit of a tweener. Doesn't have the perimeter skills necessary to play long stretches at the 3, not big enough to guard all fours.

There is, I think, a place for him in the league. The Knicks roster's just too crowded. He's behind Lance Thomas in the pecking order and Mindaugus Kuzminskas is clearly an interesting player who is also a 3/4 type guy. Add to that the Carmelo's most effective as a 4, and there just weren't going to be minutes for Mo.

Under the next CBA there will be 2 way contracts with the D-League, which will allow guaranteed contract guys like Mo to make NBA money while shuttling between White Plains and New York. Just a year too soon for Maurice, unfortunately.

In sports, there are two eternal truths:

1) You cannot replace a Gary Bertier.

2) Mo!

Can we delete this thread, or change the thread title at least?

As a fan of the NBA without a favorite team, I can now say that I have a favorite team- the Knickerbockers.

This really underscores how much the NBA will benefit from a stronger relationship with, and larger investment in, the D-League.

As currently set up, D-League players are paid peanuts (though receive housing and per diems) and the best fringe talent is lost to leagues in Spain, Greece, Russia, Turkey, France, China, etc. The rumors that have been trickling out of the new CBA negotiations are that this is a focus of the NBAPA, and that Adam Silver's invested in the idea as well. The ability to pay players an NBA minimum type salary -- still 500k for 9 months of work -- and maintain control of his rights and development is going to be huge for players like Maurice. It's never going to look lie MLB, where there are hundreds of players in any given team's system, but even if teams are each allowed 5 two way contracts that allow players to shuttle between the D-League and the NBA team without need to cut players, it'll be a big deal. And given the money that the new TV deal brought to the players and owners both, it's a pretty easy concession to create 120 or 150 new NBA jobs.

I find it interesting and nice that many college ball players can now have long careers and make millions of dollars playing after college.

Taking a guess, I'm guess that 20-30 years ago about 30-40 kids a year could find paid careers playing ball and now a couple hundred can.

And, years ago, if they didn't make the NBA, they probably made about $50k per year whereas now guys can make hundreds of thousands a year.

I'm totally guessing at the numbers but the ability for a lot more guys to make a nice living (millions over a playing career) seems evident.

Well if there's a good night to be in Cleveland tonight is it! As the CAVS play the Knicks tonight to open the NBA season, Mo will see firsthand the CAVS unfurl the championship banner and award the rings. And next door @ Progressive Field Cleveland hosts its first ever Game One of a World Series.

Game One thanks to the ineptitude of the commissioner of baseball.

If they were under the old format this would have been a year that the American League had home field advantage anyway.

Mo didn't dress last night. Saw him on the bench in a suit. Nice suit, BTW.

I was watching the Pistons against the Knicks and Mo got his first regular season game action in the first quarter. He played late in the first into the second for six minutes, scoring three points with two rebounds and a foul. He missed one shot when he was blocked from behind by Stanley Johnson and later split two free throws. I'd expect he'll see time in the same rotation spot in the second half.

Knicks are in for a potentially looooong season.
The nicest thing the sports' writers have said is that they are a "work in progress".

Their starting 5 didn't play together at all in the preseason.

The coach was also complaining about the team's endurance.

This could provide an opportunity for Mo.

Really want to get a Knocks jersey with his number on it and get it signed.

Mo scores 4 points in 19 minutes of action but the Knicks are blown at home against the Rockets. Looks like a real dog of a game for New York (Porzingas 3 points???)
