Oregon only goes 7 deep, they must be in phenomenal shape. Their zone was fantastic for the first 13 minutes for the first half. They are very small but athletic, will they be able to pull off the upset? Gonzaga will be the first mid major to play in a championship game since Butler did it twice in a row.

I keep hearing Talking Heads correct folks who refer to Gonzaga as a mid major. Their conference is... but in the eyes of the guys who get paid to talk hoops none considers them a mid major

They are a mid major like Butler used to be that runs a system and strives for exellence. We can be the same thing, we just have to believe. Gonzaga doesn't fall apart in close games against tough teams because they believe that they can win and we have to develop that same mind state. Why not us? Gonzaga is not the only elite mid major. When I attended Ohio, Ohio was number 8 in journalism. Even though, there were 10 Ivy League scools and schools like Vanderbilt, Stanford, Northwestern, Duke and Rice, we stayed in the top 10 because we strove for excellence. We didn't make excuses, now there were definitely obstacles, but we overcame them. One day our sports programs will do the same thing. Gonzaga has made itself into a constant contender, we have the ability to do the same thing. There is a lot of parity in college basketball, we have to find a system, identify and successfully recruit talent and play in our system at a high level. Once we win a few tough games, we will have the confidence that we need to play and win on the big stage, we cannot be mired in mediocrity. As a six sigma greenbelt, we manage a lot of change, in the process we create short term wins, similar to the moral victories that are created here. They are only short term, we do not live off of the moral victories, we initate change to WIN. Let's believe that we can WIN.

OHIO up 4 with NC at the line for two. Makes the first, misses the second with ball batted out for the wide open 3 and there goes the lead. Damn lack of rebound on free throws---TWICE!

What's the Journalism school have at all to do with this??????

It looks like Oregon has a good chance to be back next year. The only lose 1 senior that played tonight and they add a 5* wing and 2 other top 100 players. They also are in the running for a 5* big man.

Agreed. When you're a #1 seed, consistently ranked in the top 15-20 for the last 10-12 years, beating major conference teams often, and recruiting players on par with all but the elite 20 or so programs in the money conferences every single year...you aren't a mid-major. Gonzaga hasn't been one for a minimum the last five years, likely longer.

They are ranked number 1 in the MID MAJOR top 25, they are in a a mid major conference. Two bobcatattackers cannot change that with their alternative facts. Gonzaga is a mid major period, we can do what Gonzaga did, we don't have to make ourselves into Self proclaimed basketball experts and oppose the NCAA and paid sports writers and coaches. Gonzaga could lose Few and he could take some recruits with him and Gonzaga would struggle. The moral victory sought here has been denied.

Perimeter post, I will never forget you. If there was a king or queen of mediocrity, you would be it. You said something that almost made me throw up in my mouth. A few years back, we were on the eve of playing Tulsa and you said that we would lose by 20 and it would be good for us, you quoted a former coach. All I could think was what in the George McFly! We ended up losing by a point or two but we were up the whole game. I couldn't believe that there were people that were that defeated. Mediocrity had its spokesman and that spokesman was you. I mentioned believing, which is a big part. So as a man thinketh, so is he. The other parts are building a great system and identifying and successfully recruiting talent. You omitted those for some reason, as if others can't read my post. God bless you my friend, rescue yourself from mediocrity.

Allen, you do realize that we spend 3 million less than they do? They also generate a profit of oalmost $5million from basketball while we lose money to break even. It has a little more to do then just "want" to be. Especially when we support a Division I football team as well.

yes that is the fruit of their labor, when we were ranked in the top 25 a lot of Cuyahoga county residents were wearing Ohio football shirts, one guy even lied to me and said he played safety for Ohio, lol. When you win more, endorsements pay more, the alumni donates more. It can happen, to Saul's credit he has a system, now he has to get the talent. He has his Nigel Williams-Goss in Jaaron and his Karnowski in Carter, can he get more athletes that can create their shot. We could have won every game we played, we lost because we only had one guy who could create his own shot (Jaaron). We were outcoached at the end of games and reluctant to go to a zone when opposing players got hot.

Gonzaga ($7.2M) and Wichita State ($6.9M) are the only two non-power conference schools that have a basketball budget over $6M. The Zags have a bigger budget than their P5 neighbors Washington ($6.4M) and Washington State ($5.1M). There is nothing mid-major about their basketball program.

I wanted to appease the medi's, but we have to deal in truth. i am looking to make a great deal with the medi's in the future, but i don't want to eat lies. Yes Few does not like being called a mid major, but they are. If the lost him and he took some recruits with him, they would be Ohio with a more storied history. Here is a great article.

I have not been one who has denied the ability of Mids to get to the FF. If you had been truly reading and comprehending rather than sitting back there trying to figure out ways to be condescending, argumentative and full of knowledge you would find in my posts allusions to VCU, Butler, In St and yes even Jax with the great Artis Gilmore.

Yeah I'm sure the four guys they had on the team (3 players, 1 coach) that went onto the NBA had nothing to do with that. At that point it doesn't matter if you're a mid-major.

Better call SB Nation and leave an anonymous message citing the CIT poll. I am sure a site that has been the voice of mids will understand and yield to your opinion. Reading for comprehension is something they teach in that J school you referred to above....they did not get to 8th by not reading, comprehending and thoughtfully responding

One year, they had Gordon heyward and one year they did not. They did have a great coach. Shevlin Mack was there both years and yes he did make it to the NBA. Why can't we accept that it is possible? Why do we have to talk ourselves out of being great?
