Let's stop being crazy and having a mob mentality when it comes to a kid leaving. Culver does not have the worst form in the world and he was efficient enough to get a scholarship here and we celebrated his arrival, he did not fit here, let's wish him well and wish our team well going forward.
Well said.

And, happens everywhere....

C'mon, Jeff.

Being objective, does Ohio have enough athletes on its roster to compete in the NCAA tourney, or even the NIT, next year? How do the top 7-9 players on our roster next year stack up against teams good enough to be invited to the dance? Personally, I see a big gap for next year and beyond.
I'm with Stevelnd on his one Jeff, you can't live in a world where "the sun will come out tomorrow." Other than Carter who benefited from an injury, when is the last time a freshman came to OU and made an immediate big time impact?'
A rebounding defensive shot blocking type guy....bring one on.

Long term thinking...losing Rodney on the wing opens up a spot for guys like Tyrese Haliburton, Taevion Kinsey, Max Martz or Tanner Holden on the depth chart. If we can get one or two of those 2018/2019 guys who would most likely play the same position as Rodney that would be fantastic.

This decision tells me that he may be less of a team player than I thought...

Don't know how anyone can draw a conclusion such as this based on Mr. Culver's decision. Maybe he didn't feel comfortable in Athens? Doesn't like the school? Got his heart broken by a young lady? These are still kids in many respects. I wish him well wherever he goes...as long as it's not Akron or Miami.
Agreed. That seems like an unfair and harsh thing to say without knowing anything beyond the fact that he's moving on. No reason to wish him anything but good luck moving forward.
I'll admit that I could be wrong in that assessment; however, it is what I think based on my observations as I view them in retrospect. He always had a certain persona he projected (as least to me) when he was on the court. I used to interpret it one way; now, in light of his transfer, I interpret it another way. Yes, this is highly subjective. This is not objective journalism. But, this is a message board, where all sorts of opinions and subjective assessments are tolerated on a daily basis.

The first Amendment might protect you from the government, but it won't protect you from a reasonable bobcatattacker who is tired of your half-baked "subjective assessments". There's no law that says we can't criticize you when you post nonsense.

Greencat,

Sounds like you're describing Monteroso at West Liberty. It's a shame he didn't go basketball from the beginning. I like their point guard from Harvest Prep too.

This is the 54-point, 11-rebound, 12-assist triple-double guy.

I saw him hit some 3's in high school that were NBA range... he was almost falling out of bounds on some of them. Even if he plays his last year at CN, he should still get a shot in the NBA summer league/D-league ranks. Wouldn't be shocked if he makes an NBA roster within a few years.

It just sucks because theoretically with Kenny gone some more playing time would have opened up.

I did not see him getting more minutes. He did not fit Saul's style. He made a great decision to move on. I think we are going to see tremendous growth from Gollon. He played a bit as a frosh..is healthier and looked stronger to end year. And Butler will be all-freshman MAC MARK IT

I agree, not every player works out the way you hope, I wish Rodney the best wherever he lands. My observation from watching games this year is that he may have been too eager to prove himself when he did get PT. Too many times he took a shot, when he should have passed, which in turn restricked his minutes even more.

And what style is it that Rodney didn't fit?

And why are you so high on James Gollon? The guy scored a grand total of 21 points in his freshman year and was a DNP-coach's decision in MAC games more often than he played.

You make a lot of based-on-nothing claims.

Ball control offense vs. Slash and dash. Guys who can shoot from the outside.

Saw Gollon many times this year and he has gotten stronger and obviously will be healthier with surgeries. And I thought he showed decent promise when he did play as a freshman.

I didn't realize people were not allowed to have opinions on this board. You are obviously a professional journalist with the New York Times.

Quit trolling those of us who want to chat Bobcats with your personal negativity. I think I hear your mom calling from upstairs.

shabamon is not negative. Culver should go to a Juco and then transfer to another D1 program. I would not sit out for a year if I were him. He should not go to a place where they say they only want him for his defense. He has a good game, he needs to get loose. He was playing too tense because he had to constantly look over his shoulder. We don't have a lot of great athletes that can create their own shot, only Jaaron. This is why we had scoring lulls when teams tightened up thir defense at the end of games. It will be interesting to see who we recruit for our opening slots. Will we recruit backups or potential starters?
