No offense but he was a shooting guard?

Yes, that's exactly what he was.

Hope he finds a place that makes him happy. You cant teach his athletic ability, but hope he finds someone to fix that shot of his.

This is gonna be a tough one to recover for. Didn't realize there was speculation he was going to leave. I figured with one monster summer in Athens he would become the weapon that we need on the perimeter.

Oh well, time to go find another kid.

I think you would call him a combo. JOrdy is a shooting guard when you start breaking the kids down and categorizing. Rodney was much closer to StevieFresh than he is Nick K

Well that's a kick in the gut. Not because he was all-world this year obviously, but he's exactly the type of slashing, defensive-minded athletic wing this team needs MORE of - not less.

With Harley and Culver out, that leaves 2 open 'ships for next year, correct? Maybe this guy knew more than he was letting on before he got yelled at by the masses?

Hopefully, two spots open and we can grab a big and a wing. Maybe we can bring in Lepear tiles. Coach SP will have to remedy the scoring droughts and paint defense. If he can get Dartis, Block and Carter to add to their games we will be dangerous.
This team needs to get significantly better next year and with already losing Tone and KK - we have some holes to fill. I don't think I'm overreacting to say that - going into year 4 of #SaulBall with nothing to show for it so far - that Saul really needs to find 2 difference makers with these last 2 spots. Either starters, or at a minimum 10-15 minutes a night and in the rotation type players.

I could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe Saul would go with 5 guys in the incoming freshman class so I'd expect to see at LEAST 1 of those spots filled with a transfer or JUCO of some sort. Need to find the next Walt Offutt and avoid the next Marin Bota.

Couldn't agree more, Graff. I would think that the staff had an inkling that Harley might leave and therefore have some players in mind to bring in. I understand wanting a transfer who can help right away, but I wouldn't mind going the high school route for a player or two if the player can make an immediate impact.

Watching the NCAA tourney and a little of the NIT, Ohio needs strong and quick athletes to make the jump to the next level. We need a couple of ballers to join Simmons, Dartis and Carter in the starting lineup if we want to win on Saturday in Cleveland.

Butler. Vander Plas. New recruits to be added this Spring. We will be fine.

Welcome to the transfer world of college basketball. Few programs avoid it.

C'mon, Jeff.

Being objective, does Ohio have enough athletes on its roster to compete in the NCAA tourney, or even the NIT, next year? How do the top 7-9 players on our roster next year stack up against teams good enough to be invited to the dance? Personally, I see a big gap for next year and beyond.

I'd add Taylor to your list squared. His improvement this summer is going to be critical. I think he can make the jump to being a decent MAC starting center. If he doesn't make a leap - we're REALLY hurting inside. We'd be forced to continue to play Carter out of position with nobody to guard, rim protect or rebound inside (and we'll be force to choose between letting teams score at will in the paint on us or watching Carter foul out every game).

As of now I see our rotation as (bench in parenthesis)

PG - Simmons (Butler/Gollon)
SG - Dartis (Laster/?)
SF - ? (Block/Vander Plas)
PF - Carter (Gareri/Dozier)
C - Taylor (?)

What jumps out is the need for another C to pair with Doug and a starting caliber athletic SF/SG who can defend and slash. Let's hope that's exactly what Saul goes after with these 2 openings.

Hypothetically...

What if there was a first team D-2 all american that recently had a 54 point game? If he transfers to D-1 he would be instantly available right?

Wing player, let's say around 6-3 that can do some of everything...hit long range 3's, drive and finish with wicked dunks, defend players of any size...

What would the verdict be if he only had one year left? Take him or not.

Even without Campbell, we were about equal with the Uber athletic MAC teams...Buffalo, Kent, Akron.

I predict that we will add a couple of good guys this Spring and the incoming freshmen will contribute.

We will be fine. We earned the #2 seed without Tony.

We will have more quality depth. Remember, Phillips built a program at NDSU that advanced in the NCAA.

Sounds perfect if he were about 6'6-6'7 210-215 and had 2 years of eligibility remaining. As the competition level goes up it becomes exponentially harder for an undersized guy to be able to defend - regardless of how physical they are or how well they do it at lower levels. We're set at PG/SG with Simmons and Dartis IMO. We need some size and athleticism.

This one is definitely a surprise. I do agree to the response on twitter that he didn't really seem to fit the system. But I thought that maybe he would improve his shot and learn to move the ball better. Definitely need to get at least one more player to come in and take some minutes.

I agree with this. We were returning 7 of our top 8 minutes played (after Campbell went down) and now will be returning 6 instead. We also get Gollon back and are added what appear to be 3 very talented freshmen. If two of the freshmen contribute, that gives us 9 reliable players. That does not include whomever we add with this newly opened scholly. I see next year's lineup like this:

PG - Simmons, Butler, Gollon
SG - Dartis, Laster, Gollon
SF - Block, Vander Plas, Gollon
PF - Carter, Vander Plas, Dozier
C - Taylor, Gareri

If Wadley is back add him into the big man rotation for a couple minutes and then add in whomever we bring in with the last scholarship this year.

If a player transfers up a Division, he has to sit out a year.

Will be interesting to see how Spring recruiting goes, and if it includes transfers of any sort. Rodneys departure means more of a sense of urgency.

Don't forget Laster. If he has another big off season, he could have a huge senior year. And he's athletic enough for me.

6-7/220 with 2 years left...

But they need to get in on it while his team is in the juco national championship first round. Lots of other school will want him after that if he blows up.

Jeff, we do not have to worry about winning an NCAA gamelike NDSU. We need to be good enough to win the MACC. I don't think this team with this roster has it...yet.

losing 3 players to transfer could be a problem, but when they are 3 of the bottom 4 in the rotation I ain't mad about it.

I guess everyone is assuming Wadly Mompremier is going to transfer because he almost did last year? If so, then there are two open scholarships.

I agree with others. It's a bit surprising. I think he was in line to get more and more playing time as he develops and has the athleticism to become a really good player. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. A transfer, even one that might have to sit out a year, would be a good option for Ohio.

I'm with Stevelnd on his one Jeff, you can't live in a world where "the sun will come out tomorrow." Other than Carter who benefited from an injury, when is the last time a freshman came to OU and made an immediate big time impact?'
