Forget just the A10, that'll be a gem of college basketball. Roughly similar to what I envision a $72 million dollar Convo renovation looking like.

Still haven't been to a game there. Better get there before these changes are made so I can see the difference.

They'd better be careful, though. When you have a venue that has a certain vibe to it, even small changes can throw it off. Seems like venues at all levels and in different sports often lose something when even very small alterations are made. Acoustics, angles, views can all be thrown off. A high school football stadium at a school I covered was everyone's favorite. Electric feel inside it. They tore down the school in front of it, lost the horseshoe effect and it lost all charm and the acoustics inside it changed. Some gyms seem different when they go from wood chairs and benches to plastic stadium seating, too. Progressive Field's right field I find to be less charming now that the bullpens are out there and those giant tan boxes cover up what was the upper deck in right.

I'm sure they took all that into consideration, however. The renderings look fantastic.

It seems like the Convo already has a number of Dayton's proposed upgrades.

If I recall, they've replaced all of the seats over the last few years.

The building is air conditioned and there is a perimeter concourse.

I would like to see is a better scoreboard, which is coming.

I'd also like them to "dress up" the concourse.

My wife and I attend Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh for shows. It was built in 1927. Except for the sound system and routine maintenance, it's pretty much the same as it was back then. Leave the Convo alone. Slap some paint on it and let's watch the Bobcats. I would gladly watch a game in old Grover Center.

That would be good. The folk in Dayton really support hoops. Keeping the First Four there is paramount. The HS hoops in the Arena are finestkind. Trotwood vs Dunbar on a Sunday afternoon has been finestkind over the years. Early on concerts in the Arena were first rate. Yearly they host WGI World Championships....that arena has been well utilized since it was built. I do not think they will lose much in atmosphere with the plans they are showing....plus they add the boxes folks have been asking for years on end....

UD Arena is already a special place, this is huge, and if they wouldn't play us before home and home I doubt it will happen now.

except that we were poised for a home and home this fall with only Finals week standing in the way. But your point is taken now that McDavis is gone and Archie is as well and gives good reason to doubt

It's a series I'd love to see, grew up a big Dayton fan and would collar them as the only other team I follow in a far second to the Cats.

In my opinion, it's the best college basketball venue and atmosphere in our state, bar none. I'd highly recommend a trip there. Heck, I'd meet you there for one.

Brucecuth mentioned the Lancaster Bobcat Caravan where Saul spoke... It was posted on the BA facebook page.

Saul mentioned they have tried to schedule Dayton for a home and home and came very close this year but the dates ultimately didn't make sense. Sounded like they could only play us on Finals Week or something. That video is worth watching... Saul mentioned that as we win more, that makes it tough to convince people to come play here. He also mentioned there was a big home opponent to be announced... I'm excited to hear who that is.

Whatever happened to the Purdue game? We play them in football and I was under the understanding we would get them at home in hoops as a part of that, although admittedly I don't know if they were allowed to buy themselves out of that. Could that be the big game Saul mentioned? The football game is this year so maybe their game in Athens wont be for a year or two?

To any Daytonians on here........would you say that UD Basketball is the most popular athletic team in the region? I know Wright State is not too far and there are the Dragons and other minor league teams but I would think that UD Basketball plays second fiddle to no one in the Miami Valley?

I'm not a Daytonian, but my sis went to UD, and I'm pretty familiar with it having grown up about 60 miles north. I'd say that's affirmative on Flyer basketball being the biggest show in town. I'm interested to read feedback from those who truly live in the area though.

Marty Brenneman's son mentioned over the weekend that the Dayton Dragons own the country's longest streak of sold out games - any sport, any level.

Hope not...that would be a marked up loss. I think they have lost less than 30 games there since they opened in the late 90s IIRC.

He's talking about a HOME game with a big-time opponent. I put "at Madison" so wouldn't think I was talking about "at Green Bay." ;-)

Temple was pretty good when they came to town. Wisconsin was what, 2002 or 2003?

Last A-10 teams were Duquesne and Richmond in 2012-2013.

We got Temple in 2010-2011 due to their agreement with the conference.

We had Butler in 2004-2005, but of course that's not the same as having Butler now.

DePaul in 2003-2004 when Conf-USA was still legit.

Last game vs Power 5 school was Wisconsin in the 2001-2002 season.
