. . . . He also mentioned there was a big home opponent to be announced... I'm excited to hear who that is. . . .
Wild guess . . . the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Hope not...that would be a marked up loss. I think they have lost less than 30 games there since they opened in the late 90s IIRC.
He's talking about a HOME game with a big-time opponent. I put "at Madison" so wouldn't think I was talking about "at Green Bay." ;-)
I see. Did not get that in cursory reading. "at Madison" is as superfluous as the U in Ohio, Cal at Berkely, UC at LA. Green Bay, Stevens Point and.... UWM (Milwaukee) who seem to have laid claim to UWM..... all kind of have their own nomenclature but I have not heard the "at" used by anyone when referring to Wisky (though I would not doubt in professorial circles I would find that use)...like us they seem to be simply Wisconsin or UW....and my friends who are volley and football alum are equally as corrective as OHIO "U" alums when we do not refer to them as such.

The cost of transformation:
Wow. UD has far far far MUCH more pocketbook support(& demand) than Ohio. Impressive. We're bitching about far lower #'s.

Every now and then I have an epiphany of reality.

At this point in time, Ohio does not have any cache to suggest it merits a home and home with Dayton. It's been 10 years since they've been a middling team and even longer since they played in a single-bid conference.

Had Ohio built upon the success from 2010 and 2012, perhaps there's an argument to be made. But it didn't happen.

The home and home was ripe ...just could not get it done with finals and schedule last year. Both athletic depts were on board...details just did not get done....and that was with Tone still uninjured. May be different with Grant than Archie

I'm wondering where you got this information. I'd like to see it happen, but I asked someone with direct knowledge of UD's scheduling and he knew nothing about it. (Ted would know who I'm talking about.)

came straight from Saul's mouth, you can see it on one of the Bobcat caravan videos.

I'm just going by Saul's comments from the Lancaster Caravan. He said they were "dangerously close to signing a home-and-home with UD" but UD needed a date during Ohio's Finals week.

I'll have to go back and listen to the Dayton Caravan. He either mentioned it in his remarks or when I was talking with him. He said they could matched up in the Charleston Classic anyway.

I was being a little whimsical in my use of the "at Madison," though I have heard it said that way by a few sportscasters every now and then, not regularly, that's for sure. But my use was kind of playful, but as often happens my sly humor is not universally understood or appreciated. I did a better job on this board, when we had more emoticons! ;-)

Can you imagine the effigy burning by faculty and staff if OHIO announced a $72MM facilities investment in athletics?! Steve Hays would literally have a heart attack on announcement, and then upon burial, immediately start spinning in his grave.

People had a HUGE freak out because the University tore down a building in the Ridges complex that was irreparable without INSANE rehabilitation costs, eliminating people continually and illegally breaking in over the cyclone fence to "ghost chase", which was creating a huge liability for the University and the State.

You would have thought the Administration and Board of Trustees were drowning puppies in a public display in the Hocking when the nuisance was razed, so you ask "why OHIO struggles to be nationally prominent in athletics?" Dah doy.
