The article is crap and it's exactly why the grad transfer rule is irritating.
Michigan is currently recruiting Ohio transfer Jaaron Simmons and Wright State transfer Mark Alstorkl
How is this possible? Mark Alstork has publicly stated he is transferring, and he retweeted some reports announcing recruiting visits he is taking so I have no problem with that, but how can someone be actively recruiting Simmons? How can dozens of Michigan fans be convinced Simmons is transferring in when he hasn't stated anywhere (that I know of) that he would be leaving Ohio? Is it even legal to reach out to a player just because you know he's graduating and wouldn't have to sit out a year?
The even more puzzling situation is...
...if Michigan's two underclassmen who are testing NBA draft waters (Wilson and Wagner) come back to Michigan and Michigan lands that highly touted recruit Mamba who they are holding a scholarship for, then there won't even be an available scholarship for Simmons or Alstork. They're operating under a premise that they don't even know the outcome for. And it screws over everyone in the process.
Someone is going to get left out in the cold and I really hope its not Ohio or Simmons.
I mean if you're Saul you kind of at some point have to assume Jaaron isn't going to be there right? He can't just go out on the road without an idea of who we need.
I do appreciate the author's perspective on how college basketball is becoming different in recruiting yearly instead of building a team for the future.
