Expect a formal announcement very soon. There's probably no reason to go all apoplectic, though. Campbell did this last year and then decided to come back. Simmons can benefit from the workouts and competition at draft camps, etc. Personally, I think his outside shot, while improving, is not there yet, and his decision-making with the ball isn't either. But, man are his speed, conditioning, attitude and ball skills impressive. If he does make it to the NBA this year, it would be a great accomplishment that no one could begrudge.

News of Simmons declaring for the draft is 100x better than news of him considering a graduate transfer, IMO.

Agreed. I want to see a lot more of Gollon next season (and Butler), but not *that* much more!

No question about it, besides what the NBA may do in response to the growing numbers who are declaring and ending up in the pre-draft camps. It's a great idea for everyone to learn about where they stand in the eyes of NBA scouts.

Have there been any updates on Simmons? I have been hearing from other sites that he is intending on transferring if he withdraws from the draft.

I haven't seen anything on him on here in a couple of weeks.

Word is he is visiting Michigan this week and him and Greg Paulus from OSU just followed each other on Twitter

The Twitter I can confirm and the Ohio State information I can confirm from my sources up there. I told you people on here that they were going to make a run at him and wish I could say I were shocked.

One of the Michigan premium boards has been talking about him as an option for a while.

He should stay, he won't have to look over his shoulder here and we have about the same chance to go dancing as Ohio State. I believe that we will have a better nonconference schedule than last year. If he does put his name out there as a transfer, you can expect Rick Pitino to get involved along with the Xavier and UD staff.

Negative. He's on track to graduate (I think). Remember he sat a year at Ohio already so it's not like he lost time in the classroom.

Just remember that there are all sorts of rumors of varying credibility about player movement this time of year. It's probably best to just wait until the process is complete and see who makes what decisions.

Simmons leaving would be a kick in the you know what, but there's not much sense losing a lot of sleep about it. I agree with the mercenary comment above. But coaches have been doing it for years, so why shouldn't the players, I guess.

I didn't realize he was a redshirt junior.

I understand the concept behind the Graduate Transfer Rule.

But,if you're not planning on pursuing a graduate degree,which in a lot instances seems to be the case,and if you're already a starter,doing well in a "decent" program,I don't see a lot of pluses in transferring.

This would be crippling. With the rest of the MAC dealing with graduating seniors and transfers we are set up to do very well. If we lose Jaaron and lose him this late we enter next year with Darty..Block and Carter as starters. No true leader amd Butler as lone PG.

As a person who really doesn't follow the NBA, do scouts really question the level of competition that much? Or do they look at how players compete in these camps versus other players considered for the draft? The only time I ever really paid attention to the draft in the last 10-15 years is when DJ was hoping to get drafted.

Some of both. It's to the point now where most draftable players don't compete in any kind of draft camp, but playing really well in those camps can improve a player's stock to the point where they do get drafted. But it's mostly about evaluations from play during the season. I think the strength of schedule thing is overstated. Stats can be misleading based on opponent, but you can see what kinds of things a player is capable of no matter who he is playing against.

It seems Simmons is just exploring all of his options. I hope he decides his best option is to stay at Ohio. As others have said, with him, the Bobcats could be the MAC favorite.

very true, the scouts will find you wherever you are (CJ McCollum and Damion Lillard). It is easier to notice you when you play against tough competition.

I could be very, very wrong, but I think JS has a lot of loyalty toward SP, and I doubt seriously that he'll end up transferring anywhere. If he does, it will be devastating. But, in the famous words of Alfred E. Neuman, "What me worry?"

How is this possible? Mark Alstork has publicly stated he is transferring, and he retweeted some reports announcing recruiting visits he is taking so I have no problem with that, but how can someone be actively recruiting Simmons? How can dozens of Michigan fans be convinced Simmons is transferring in when he hasn't stated anywhere (that I know of) that he would be leaving Ohio? Is it even legal to reach out to a player just because you know he's graduating and wouldn't have to sit out a year?
