I still think Ohio is the team to beat in the MAC. The conference lost a ton of players as nearly all the All-MAC guys are gone but Ohio has a very good core to work with.

I think we have the best player in the league (Carter). I think we have four guys with a TREMENDOUS amount of experience as juniors in DT, Dartis and Block (find me 3 juniors on any team with as many minutes as this three). Massinburg and Perkins come close but our three have a ton of minutes. Laster was last year's MIP in the league. We added someone in Mickle who played 10 minutes a game for an NCAA team. He's not going to be Chandler Thomas and Kadeem Green. I see him being a 5 ppg, 6 rpg guy who will defend the rim. And we have unknowns in Gollon and Dozier along with 4 freshmen who look solid but are unknowns.

Will be exciting next year for sure. I wish Tone all the best. He was a gamer who gave his all to Ohio for four years!

Sit on the schollie and possibly award it to one of the walk-ons for the year knowing they won't be renewed. I'd love to get a late signing, but I don't know who we could get of any value at this point. Unless there's a Jerome Tillman out there somewhere that hasn't signed elsewhere.

Minutes are great but we only get points from two of those guys. When you lose a guy like Jaaron, the points will have to come from somewhere. I don't think I could even venture a guess at this point. We go nowhere next year without a significant contribution from a newcomer or two.

Fixed it for you. Next season is a new season. I don't know if Doug will step up his offensive game but I'm betting on it. I do agree that we'll need contributions from new guys but we are pretty much in that same boat every season and someone always emerges.

I can see Carter going for 16 or so per game (increase). I can see Block being more assertive and going up to about 8 to 10 per game (increase) and Laster will surely average double figures next year. The key will be what the two freshman guards bring and if Vander Plas/Mickle/Gareri contribute. I can see Vander Plas coming in like gangbusters as a stretch-4 and hitting 3s or I can see him struggling. I can see Gareri being a thinner Carter and playing some high-low or I can see him redshirting. I can see Kirk and Butler being Robotham and Antino Jackson as freshman at Kron or I can see them struggling. It is what will make the year unknown and exciting. I like that we will be underestimated behind teams like Buffalo, Kent, Balls, Western and Toledo. Bring it on.

Someone can confirm for me, but I think I recall Saul stating that there would be no redshirting happening this year. (Barring injuries happening)

I'd have to think college coaches are going to be less likely in the future to redshirt freshmen with the thought of a that player leaving for another university to play his final year of eligibility (ala Simmons).

That may be true in the case of a redshirt, though with Simmons of course it was the required sit out year.

It doesn't happen all that frequently in college basketball anyway. And I would be willing to bet that there aren't many of those that will come back to haunt you in the grad transfer arena. More likely for medical redshirts I would think.

I'm fully expecting in 2028 — as he is wrapping up his 11th season overseas as a standout player and after having earned millions of dollars — to learn from the NCAA that Tony Campbell is, in fact, eligible for another season at Ohio University.

I would say based on the fact that Block will have another year under his belt and Laster averaged double digits over his last 9 games. Add to the fact that we lost two starters from last year's team and neither prediction is really all that far fetched.

Block's natural evolution as a junior is what I can see. Laster averaging double figures when his minutes went up last year is what I see. Did you not see Laster average double figures to end the season? Do you think Block will be stagnant? He's too hard of a worker for that.

With so many losses of the top guys in the MAC due to graduation, transferring, etc., it won't be good for the overall strength of the conference this upcoming season, but it should make for a very competitive league. I think you're going to see much more parity across the board. I'm looking forward to that. It'll be nice to finally see some of the other teams in the league in the conference race late in the season as opposed to having a couple teams that leave the rest of the group behind as we've had in most years past.

If we can get a point guard to get the ball into Carter and also be able to get into the lane to kick out to Dartis and Block I think we will be fine. If our guards struggle to get to the rim we will struggle. OUr best teams had guys who could penetrate and dish with guys like Fears, DJ, Walt and Jaaron.

Huh? The last two years there were five teams each year within one game of each other for second place in the league.
