I live not too far from this school but certainly don't know anything about its athletics. The Racers' roster is interesting. They have a 7-2 guy from Spain but he doesn't play much. They also have a 6-8 guy from the Bahamas. They have three guys from North Carolina who all transferred from the same community college and two others from other places in North Carolina. They also have a player who was home schooled.

I am looking forward to see who shows up and plays in this game. Is Carter definitely out? Is Laster OK? Is Mickle 100%? Is Dartis ready to go? Will the Freshman bigs make an appearance? With the league opener 4 days away, the answers to these questions will determine the prospects for a successful league campaign.

I would guess that if there's any doubt about health, Saul will leave people on the bench. I expect another skeleton crew on the court and in the stands. I'm not too thrilled that the first game I can make it to this year is essentially a meaningless scrimmage, but it'll be nice to be back in the Convo.

With all the basketball playing small schools in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, etc - If they had to go all the way to Toledo or whatever to continue playing ball... that is not a good sign for them. I noticed that they play "Madonna" later in the season. Does that school have a major that teaches you to dress like a ho and sing unoriginal sounding pop songs?

So is this the worst program to ever play Ohio?

Excluding Miami, of course.

Were about to lose to these guys. That'll bring the crowds back in a hurry this winter.

In all seriousness if nwoh hit any threes in the second half we would be getting killed

That was pathetic in every way. Scheduling, execution, attitude, final score.

In unrelated news, I will be posting vines of dunks over small children on a nerf hoof to my twitter account.

Have you ever been on a sports team where injuries ravaged it so no continuity could take place? Block. DT, Gollon and Kirk are the only players who have played every game. You must not know how difficult that is. These guys are fighting...if you want to be mad..be mad at Jim Christians first year or last years finish.

I am well aware of the circumstances of this season and I stand by what I said. Playing an NAIA team in the regular season: awful. Getting leads on them and frittering them away: awful. Almost losing to them: Awful. We’re a DI team. If you want to make excuses for that garbage go ahead. It was terrible in every way.

I think some are thinking this is like playing a close game against Findlay or something. It's not. This is closer to our D1 program going down to Ping and having to sweat out a victory.

I spent some time watching the knowledgeable old timers who have been coming to the Convo - some since it was built - react to many of the plays last night. I never saw so much squirming, grimacing, looking at the ceiling, "oh my God" mouthing in my life. No doubt not having Carter on the floor hurt. Not sure what was wrong with Butler. If those two had played, that makes for a nine man rotation and in most programs that's all you get anyway.

What concerned those long time fans and I'd bet RJ were things like getting back on D, easy tips/offensive rebounds, not closing out on a shooter, errant or weak passes. None of those things have anything to do at all with who's on the floor. Those are basic skills that just weren't getting executed.

Had those two back to back threes that rimmed in and out with less than 3 minutes to go gone in, we would have been down 1 with less than two minutes to go.

All that said and now that all of these silly games are over, the next two games will give a true indication of whether we have a team that gets a bye to Cleveland or struggles to be .500.

Did not play. Was dressed. Kirk played all 40 minutes at PG. First question that I would have asked on the post game show (it may have been, but I was driving home in the snow).

And on a side note, the game only last 90 minutes. That was great.

Obviously not a good sign when you struggle to beat the equivalent of Nelsonville Tech. Truth be told shouldn’t one have expected to see the entire back end of the bench for extended minutes if not the majority of the 2nd half last night?

Burning question though were do things honestly stand with Carter? Also neither of the other 2 freshman bigs have seen a minute of floor time with essentially half the season gone. I think all 3 are looking destined for red-shirts.

This all has the making of a long year.

It will be sad if we waste a fantastic grad transfer like Mickle and a tremendous senior year from Laster.

Speaking of Mickle I still don't understand why he doesn't start and play 30 minutes a game. Also Gollon needs to see 30 minutes a game. He is a true gamer and work horse.

Alan, you explained my disgust and exasperation well. I hope we can bury this and improve through the MAC slate, but my hopes are low.

Just trying to "report" what a former college newspaper sports editor has witnessed most games so far this season. As a side bar looking at some of his facial expressions and body language I'm pretty sure the AD didn't like what he saw last night.

Someone help me out on attendance. I figured nobody would be there as: 1. we played a school from Ohio I never heard of; 2. it was New Year’s weekend; 3. weather conditions brutal; and 4. THE was playing a bowl game.

But Ohio did not report attendance in the box score, so for the hell of it I went to the Northwestern Ohio athletic site (yes, they have one) and they actually reported it: 5251. So we were out-box scored by a NAIA D2 school, not to mention nearly beaten by them.

Attendance reported must have been tickets purchased as I can’t believe they would have butts-in-seats anywhere close to that. So what do you figure actual attendance was?

Arkley mentioned Butler missed practice with an illness on Wednesday. Perhaps that was why he didn't play.

Not surprised the AD wouldn’t be pleased who would? That said and not to make excuses, Saul loses argularby his best player two years in a row to a freakish foot injury and I’m of the opinion he fully expected Simmons to stay. But as they say you have to play the cards dealt and the hand I’m seeing left is going to take some real poker skills to pull out wins. IMO with what we currently have available I fear this may turn out to be a lost year.
