Iona got open threes through dribble penetration. They continually broke us down, drew the double, and found the open man spotted up for a three. They made them at a higher percentage than they usually do until late in the game.
Nice effort overall with a small team and short bench. I hope we can use the tape from this game as part of learning how to slow dribble penetrwtion.
We need to look at some zone defenses, we had trouble stopping the dribble drive last year. Great effort though only going 7 deep.
Bringing up the idea zone defense is a waste of time. Saul has reiterated several times since he's been here that he's not going to play a zone.
He needs to adapt, we get no steals and no blocks. We don't sprint out out on misses. Anybody with a good coach would tell their players to drive and kick.
I'm not in disagreement - I'd like to see something outside of the norm to give teams an occasional different look, regardless of what it is. It could be a 3/4 court press, 2-3 zone, whatever. I'm just saying he's sticking to man to man the way they do it based on his response when he's been asked.
