I have a confession.

I did something I've never done before.

I turned off a Bobcat basketball game before it was finished.

When Key hit the 3 to put Indiana St. up by 9 with 90 seconds left, I decided to save my final 18% of phone battery and shut 'er down, thinking the Bobcats put up a great fight to get back into the game, but ran out of gas.

When I looked at the final score hours later, I dropped my phone. They came back again from 9 down with 90 seconds to go?

WOW.

I will go back and watch the replay.

And I'll never give up on them again.
LOL, I did the same thing although I was at my son's basketball game listening to Russ and Rob. The sports gods made me pay though because I switched it to watch my Redskins on my phone just after they had taken a 31-16 lead over the Saints. Got into my car just as that game was going to OT shocked to see Cats game still going with a few seconds left in the 4th OT. Was able to get my mind off the Skins debacle by watching the replay of the Cats when I got home.
I've got you all beat. I was too busy doing yoga and jamming out to some vinyl to even remember there was a game on. I didn't pick it up till late in the 3rd OT.

I had to leave the house with Ohio down 8 with around 45 seconds left in 2nd OT. Return a few hours later, went on BA to read Joe Mac's topic about Freeman being part of Ohio's last two four-overtime games (as a player v. St. Bonnie and as an asst. coach v. Indiana St) and thought Joe had lost his mind, surely Ohio just had just gotten beat by ISU in 2 overtimes.

Was in disbelief when I dug a little deeper to see Ohio won in 4 OT and enjoyed watching the extra periods on ESPN3 to see how it went down.

It's amazing how much the context of this comeback was missed by everyone, including the announcers and even the Sportscenter hosts who called it the game of the day but never mentioned the 18 point deficit or the 9 point overtime comeback.

We were down 9 with under a minute in the second OT. 9!!! We tied it with a 13-4 run... that ALL came in the final minute of that OT!

We scored 13 points in under a minute.
We erased a 9 point deficit in under a minute.

One of the wisest, most passionate Bobcat fans I know said in-game that what our team was doing required a lot of moxie. This is strong evidence, sir. :-)

When you think about it, we had 40 strong minutes and half of those came in overtime. That's pretty amazing. It happened with a tight rotation, an injury, lots of youngsters on the floor, at least one guy playing out of position and foul trouble.

Jason Arkley's efficiency numbers shared via Twitter for first half and second half/overtime show how this was two different games.

A crazy one for sure and one that everyone present or participating in won't forget.

This. Team gets a great bonding experience spending a week together on the road. Plays some "big boys" tough - but to top it all off with pulling out this 4OT game - has to be a data point for this team growing up and coming together.
Perhaps this is the Jeremy Fears back-flip springboard game for this year's team.

Just looked at the play-by-play, it was a 7-point deficit with 24 seconds left!

A lot of coaches would have been outraged, breaking clip boards, yelling in people's faces, etc. Coach Phillips just kept his same demeanor. It's great when players are mature enough to keep grinding and figure it out on the court without an angry taskmaster berating them. Maybe part of the reason this team still had energy in overtime is the positive environment created by this coaching staff. That's why when recruiting, this staff is going after good, mature people who will hold up under duress. Sometimes sheer athleticism doesn't carry the day.

I don't recall ever seeing a Bobcat team erase a 7 point deficit with 25 seconds to go. Inspiring for all those depressing moments at the end of the game where we foul and you wanna be like "Ugh why, there is no way."

I said something to mcbin sort of along these lines. Imagine what this group can do using toughness and moxie like that when they're at full strength?

It was Certainly one of the most exciting Bobcats games I've ever been to. I also confess, I looked at my dad and wife when the gap went to 9 late in 2OT and said "that's it".

There was a game at Kent, it seems about 20 years ago that the Bobcats came back from a huge deficit in under a minute but the exact details escape me. I just know that after watching that game, I always think that anything is possible.

Yes, I cited that one to my wife, when she said, "it's over." Do I get some extra credit for optimism? ;-)

Wasn't that the game where Rush Floyd single handedly brought us back by scoring nine points, or something like that, in the final minute? If so, I think that'd have been 1991-92 or 1992-93, either the year before Trent or his freshman year, if memory serves.

Edit: No details available here, but I'm guessing it had to be this Jan. 9, 1993 game at Kent:

that was 1994 and was the Regular season MAC title clincher. I was there for WOUB and was sitting behind our bench. We were down the entire game I think and we trailed very very late and somehow came back to steal a win. I seem to remember a huge steal and bucket by Gus Johnson being a defining moment in the comeback.

For those that only know of Kent as a good program... back then Kent was a guaranteed two wins. So it wasn't normal to have to battle with Kent... we generally expected to beat them at both arenas. the fact that they were beating us even in their gym was very very strange.

I was at a Bobcat game I believe was Toledo on Feb 3, 1973 and we were down 11 with 1:02 left. Final score 63-62 Ohio but I can’t find the archive data anywhere on the web. Not 100% certain it was Toledo but odds are that was the game.

Out of all the games to attend this was the one!!! My wife and I missed our Fort Sumter tour, but it was well worth it.

Even when the team was down the Bobcat Fans in attendance continued their enthusiasm for the Cats. What was initially cheers derived from the sorrow of our play in the first half became cheers of a legitimate nature from the U.D. fans as the Bobcats entered their divine rally.

Regardless if this team makes a run in the NCAA Tourney or finishes fourth in the MAC East this season we have a group of kids that play with a relentless fever and as an Alumnist that makes me very proud.

This should be one hell of a season.
