As isolated as Murray/Martin seems, it's only 94 miles from Martin to Austin Peay which isn't far from WKU to the north or Vandy/Belmont/Lipscomb/TSU to the south. A swing through that part of the world could easily yield 3 or 4 road games with a minimal of travel expenses. TSU is maybe the one to avoid because of the "part of town" it's in and nobody goes to their games. Ohio at Belmont back when JC was coach didn't sell out but it was pretty full. Lipscomb would be thrilled to get a good MAC team to visit their place. They played road games at Texas and Alabama this season but the only decent visiting team was Belmont which is literally up the street from them.
Austin Peay used to be a great game to get ... but they have fallen to the bottom of the OVC. Clarksville is just up the road from Nashville.
Lipscomb wouldn't really be a game Ohio should travel for. They're on the lower end of the D1 scale.
TSU, while it's not in a great part of town, it's not that bad. I've been in far worse places. They have a decent arena ... but you are right ... rarely does anyone ever show up. But they've far more competitive the last five years in that league than Peay.
UTM is also a team Ohio should not travel too. They rarely, if ever, get a decent team to come to their place. Arkansas State is about as good as it gets for them. That's a team that should be traveling to the Convo for a game ... not the other way around, ha!
Honestly, Ohio should not be traveling to any OVC team with maybe the exception of Murray, Belmont, EKU or Morehead. Outside that, the rest of the league is pretty bad. And EKU/Morehead would only be for proximity sake.
If Ohio is going to hit the open road (theoretically) ... maybe a Valpo/Butler/Purdue/IU/IPFW/ND swing wouldn't be a bad idea...some combo of two of those (mid major/P5)
Same thing for Pitt/Duquesne/Robert Morris/Penn State ... or head to Philly for Drexel/St. Joe/Temple/Villanova/Lasalle/Penn
Or Maryland/GW/Towson/Geo Mason/Georgetown/Navy
This is why I'd love to sit in on scheduling ... seems like a lot of potential opportunities for somewhat easy bus trips .... I'm very curious why they don't work out? Why we didn't do another game when we were in Maryland is a head-scratcher?
