Referred to us as Ohio State during the webcast last night. That is not OK.

I didn't hear it last night, but I did the previous game. Two games in a row?
That's a fireable offense. our sports marketing does a bad enough job, we don't need her forgetting our name on the air.

I agree, but I'll cut her a break. I think she does a really outstanding job on color. Great chemistry with her and Marty.

She brings a lot of good insight. We should probably thank her for trying to confuse our awful team with anyone else last night.

I'll defend Toni Roesch (she does not need me to) every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. She is as good at breaking down a game as most analysts at higher levels, and has forgtten more about basketball than most of us can remember. She has the respect of virtually every coach that she knows in the region (and that's a long list). She realized right away she said "Ohio State", and instantly regretted it. (as a brief reference point, Toni played at Ohio State) We both know the "issue" that is for all Ohio fans and take great pains to make sure we avoid it. Does it happen? Yes, is it on purpose? of course not.

We value all of our viewers, and we are glad to be able to bring Bobcat basketball to you.

I think she has a lot more fans on here than detractors. Not that there are many fans left these days.

Bingo^^^^. Like I said...thankful for this broadcast team and to be able to watch games on ESPN3. It's an honest mistake, especially when someone has great ties to OHIO State. She's good..really, really good.

I wonder the date of the last time the Indiana broadcast crew referred to their team as Indiana State? This should just not happen. I mean, it's in huge, bold print on the floor.

I also think she does a fine job as an analyst, and I mean that wholeheartedly.

But the Ohio thing needs to be square. No, I'm not really advocating firing her for this. But, seriously...Ohio.

All that said... this ESPN3 thing... Even when the streaming is pretty good picture wise (and it usually is), it sounds like Marty and Toni are in a soundproof booth somewhere off site because there is only barely audible nat sound. This seems like a very simple production fix.

Would go as far to say this is THE golden rule for Ohio athletics broadcasts. Once that can is opened, leaves room for much more criticism.

I have a hard time calling my kids the right names. I think a slip up here and there is a pardonable offense. Consistently doing it is one thing but I have bigger problem hearing announcers say Miami "of Ohio" and I didn't even go there.

The two announcers were, for years, the OSU women's basketball announcing team. So it's only natural that there could be a slip up every now and again. Not a slight on us - just years and years of doing OSU games.

Pretty clear that when the general sentiment is "meh" from OHIO's most ardent supporters, the Ohio Legislature made the right call when they strong-armed Bob Glidden into formalizing a centuries long campaign to steal our brand. If we don't care, we should just change the name back to American Western and be done with it.

I agree with BL's recent post that this board has gotten soft.

Barely audible nat sound? There's barely noise at the Convo.

OU with a paw is fine for most of us. No inferiority complex here as opposed to the "forced" Ohio.

Forced? How is it forced?

If Michigan can be MICHIGAN, Alabama can be ALABAMA, Florida can be FLORIDA, Oregon can be OREGON...you get the point. It's OHIO. It's not that tough.

Have your read any of the university style guides lately? Have you personally witnessed university personnel when speaking in public have to catch themselves and change mid-word from OU or Ohio University to Ohio? Tom Boeh tried to force it and it failed miserably.

So you've never made a mistake in your life? WOW! Why you even started this thread is perplexing .... and I don't know her, have any allegiance, etc. But if you want to find a better color analyst to do our games I think you'll be looking for a needle in a haystack.

There's not much I liked about Boeh, but I wouldn't say he failed miserably at rebranding Ohio Athletics. I'm sure there are some long-timers that prefer OU and Ohio U and that's fine (I'm a big fan of the pawprint too). But he did force national media to refer to us as Ohio, just like they refer to other teams with single state names.

Well shoot, in hindsight, maybe we could have cornered the market on "the U".

I know, Alan... we could probably sit here anD argue the same points over and over for hours, but I'd still be right and you'd still be wrong. You're wrong in so many ways here. #1, it's been quite a success, even if not 100% of the time and our own marketing is to blame there quite a bit.

#2 you have such a weak response to this... Sorry Alan, but it's kind of a pathetic take what they give us perspective. I call bullshit. Take what's ours. If our own administrators or representatives have to hesitate to get our name right, that's not a reason not to get it right. THAT'S ALL THE MORE REASON TO TRY HARDER AND DO IT BETTER! It's the fault of a century's worth of leadership (Alden excepted) thinking it's ok to suck hind t*t to the 800 lb gorilla just because they're good at football. So if you like being confused with Oklahoma, or Oakland, or osu or Clemson, that's fine. I'll stick with what's rightfully ours and I'll defend it.

We now have logos, and uniforms that are recognizable around the country. Bleh, Hocutt and Schaus all get credit for this. It’s brand identity has come a long way, as well as marketability.

Alan, you are so completely wrong about this in so many ways, I don't know where to start. I'll just comment on one point: This didn't start with Tom Boeh. It goes back years and years -- back into the 19th Century literally. I researched this years ago. In modern times the first to address this issue point on was President Vern Alden. This was at the height of the "Ohio U." era when we had forgotten our birthright. "Ohio U." says we are defining ourselves by who we are not -- how negative can you get? Alden insisted that in any context in which you would refer to any other state university by just the state name that our school would be referred to as just OHIO. He practically fired people for not following this directive.
