This probably is Ohio's last home game, but BG is the #8 spot, and a win by Ohio would put it a game back of the Falcons with a game to go. I'm not sure the scenarios, but there's probably some scenario where the Bobcats could get the #8 spot via tiebreaker over BG (and possibly other teams if others end up in the tie).

Please, please, please...

...have more than 3 assists this time out. That number from the last time Ohio played BG is still baffling.

Obviously beating BG & Miami is necessary for that to happen, but I was curious to know the scenario's for tie breakers. Below is the document from 2015. I assume it's the same now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If it's just OU and BG breaking the tie (probably unlikely):

1) Beat BG at home, move to tiebreaker #2

2) Win out by beating BG and Miami, and assume BG loses to UB, Ohio would get the 8 seed. Both teams currently are 3-5 vs the MAC East.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If other teams are involved - CMU, NIU, Akron -- it's more complicated, but for sure, Ohio loses the head-to-head tie break with CMU.

-NIU finishes vs Toledo, vs BSU. Likely lose one of, if not both of those.
-CMU finishes vs BSU, vs WMU. Same as above /\
-Akron finishes @ UB, vs Kent. I'd guess they go 1-1 in those.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, bottom line is, winning the last two games probably gives Ohio decent odds of getting that 8 seed, and a home game on Monday.

Whatever happens, I would just really rather not play up at Western Michigan again. Keep the team in Ohio or play at EMU and I'll be fine.

I posted this on the tournament pairings thread too, but in the event of a tie between only Ohio and BG..

It goes a little deeper than that. The Division Record tie breaker is only used for determining a division champ. In this scenario it would be skipped and go to the winning percentage from 1 seed down. Both would be win-less against UB, Toledo and BSU and undefeated against EMU. It would come down to who finishes higher in the standings, Miami (Ohio 2-0 vs. BG 1-1) or WMU (BG 1-0 vs Ohio 0-1).

Unfortunately for Ohio, Miami is already a game back of WMU, and assuming a loss to Ohio for this to be relevant, the best they could do is tie with WMU. WMU is 2-0 against Miami so it would take some multi-team tie breaker for them to finish below Miami under this scenario.

EDIT: The only scenario I could find to give Ohio the #8 would be a 3-way tie with BG and NIU. Ohio would be 1-1 against BG and 1-0 against NIU. BG would be 1-1 against both Ohio and NIU. NIU would be 1-1 against BG and 0-1 against Ohio. So Ohio would win the tie breaker with the highest winning percentage against tied teams.

For what it's worth, today's Post article about the Seniors playing their last game at the Convo tonight says the highest Ohio can finish is 9th and will open the MAC Tournament on the road.

I think an interesting part of this game is that it is more than likely the O Zone's "senior night" as well, as it were. The two fellas who were trying their best to keep it running are both moving on, and this looks like it'll be their last game in the convo.

Not sure who would take it over.

Watched a little of BG's last game and the announcer stated that Justin Turner just set the BG freshman scoring record. I thought that was pretty impressive considering the individuals that have gone through that program. Turner will give TK a run for MAC frosh of the year.

Great to have that winning feeling back heading into March. The progression of Doug Taylor has not gone unnoticed here. He's improved big time and I do buy into the fact that his injury in HS really slowed him down during his first two years at OHIO. Now if he can learn to push his guys further away from the basket on defense he'll take his game to another level.

James Gollon...AKA Jimmy G....has shown that he can compete at this level and be an important player on the roster. Who would have ever thought he'd be a starting guard this season? Not me...not in a million years. Keep it going Jimmy G.

How about Kirk knocking down the 3 ball? Can you imagine if they can fix his stroke? Glad he is a Bobcat....thank you JSmooth.

Amazing to think where Mike Laster would be today if Tony Campbell did not get hurt last year? Dude has been banged up all year and he's a warrior. Good for him to stick it out and finish at OHIO.

Here is hoping the Bobcats can find some magic and beat a quality conference opponent in March. Let the madness begin. #BleedGreen

Exceptional commentary. YOu headed to Vegas this year? Still would not put money on advancing.

Since Jimmy G has been in the starting lineup the team is 3 and 1. Coincidence?

C'mon, Alan. I know you're a big Gollon fan (nothing against that).

But it's not like those three wins have come against Wally's Miami team, Gates/Huffman's Kent team and Nate Thurmond's BG team.

In all due respects to our seniors,it will be somewhat of a relief when this season is over. With the effort that these guys give I am optimistic for our future.
Moving on with player development and a productive off season it will be great to get a fresh grip.

I always love a post with a reference to Nate the Great!

But, I agree with what I think Alan is implying here. It's not a coincidence. Jimmy G has been playing like a madman. He plays like Charlie Hustle on steroids. He seems somehow involved in virtually every play. Today, the play of the game was when the ball was going out of bounds off an OHIO player. Everyone in the stands and the players on the court -- except for Gollon -- thought it was a hopeless play and that BG was going to get the ball. However, Gollon runs to the end of the court jumps out over the out-of-bounds line and before he touches the floor manages somehow to bounce the ball off the leg of the BG player who is also in the air. It was an extremely athletic play. This kid is phenomenal! [We've got a lot of other players who are playing much better recently, such as Taylor. Kirk and, today, Butler, but Gollon has been a real spark plug since he became a starter.]
