Topic: $2 million Convo Video Board Project to be Considered

I thought for sure we'd have hologram scoreboards by now.

Or at least more widespread use of projection as a way of cutting down on scoreboard costs.

only two of the four corners were replaced with video boards, which actually made it harder to see the score from certain seats. The two "score" boards are much older.

In case you still don't understand, I never said that was the only thing a team has to do to make the tourney. It's obviously not, don't twist my words.

Adding a scoreboard will help with the overall game day experience as well as the aesthetics of the convo. This will make fans happy as well as impress potential recruits. I would also trust the people on this site way more with decisions regarding athletics than I would with our administration. I have seen a number of post on this site literally blueprinting what needs to be done for athletic success. While a number of things have been done for football. scoreboard, beer, walter, ect... not much has been done for basketball. Which is a shame because most people agree we have a higher ceiling for basketball than for football.

I cannot speak to if there are other priorities within that budget that are more important. Don't know?
Nothing is going to beat the impact of an exciting product on the floor. Good/fun team > Scoreboard

However, as for the overall aesthetics inside the arena--this is a game changer. In fact, what percentage of venues that size/shape would you guess don't have a hanging scoreboard? I'd guess not having one is an exception.

That said a board with more info would be nice but do we really need it? If the fans really needed one I guess they'd replace the scoreboard in Fenway.

Wrong again, all 4 boards were replaced at the same time. The original boards were green, the second boards (1st media board) were green, the latest boards are black.

It was an eye opening experience plus we claimed an uncle owned the publication. All our friends wanted autographed copies - not our autographs but the girls. Why did you get rid of it when it worked perfectly fine? Why did you get rid of the bedspread when it still kept you warm? Aesthetics likely. After nearly 20 years some stuff becomes embarrassing if not kept up.

The video boards look horrible, they're ~17 years old, and are in awful positions to boot. Hand dryers don't work, and force me to dry my hands on my jeans. None of this keeps me from coming to support the Bobcats.

Just like potholes don't prevent me from driving my car to work. But it's nicer when you can see the video boards, and roads are a bit smoother.

This! I really wonder if some of you enjoy taking a silly counter position just to give yourselves something to type about. I realize most of us are well beyond the age of high school and college students but you must try to understand what resonates with them to relate to the many things that are done to attract them to our campus and our athletic teams. Kids think it's cool to wear a "retro" alternative game uniform from time to time but none of them are drawn to a campus with facilities that are retro (i.e., old and outdated - not cool). IT'S NOT HARD TO UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT! Now, if you don't agree with staying current, well, plan on being really frustrated all the time because that's what our coaches and administrators are going to do - spend money to stay relevant and attractive to student-athletes.

Sometimes I wish everyone had a business degree so they could understand simple economics and marketing concepts - or just some freaking common sense.

A business degree does not insure any of those things of which you speak. Several years ago I wrote an op-ed piece for the Messenger (several to be exact) about customer service and why I keet coming back to certain places or was attracted to them in the first place. Number one determinant then and still today - customer service. The customer service experience at OU athletic events just isn't very good right now. It's all about the university's interests and very little about the fans. That my friend is how you lose fans. Full disclosure. I do not have a business degree but ran my own $1.8 million dollar business for over 20 years and managed a region with annual billings of $20 million for another 11. Our successful reps were the ones who understood customer service.

One more voice here to say that we NEED a visible video board. NOT in the corners... overhead. My lord, even MIAMI has video boards in a place you can see them.

Overdue, totally necessary. A must. Do it right fricking now. Small expense in the big picture for a totally critical need.

I think we should just use red and blue flip-cards next to the scorers table. I think we could grab some from Ping. It'd be the fiscally responsible thing to do. It's not like we have enough fans to fill the place that they wouldn't be able to see the flip-cards anyway. Plus, how things look on TV and to the 12 students who attend in the Ozone matter not to me. Recruits don't care either.

For the love of God, put some modern scoreboards up already. Ones that don't make us embarrassed to be like "well if you tilt your head and lean over here...okay now look over there in that dimly light hallway...no no BEHIND the backboard".
