Elmore was always a shoot first guy, but his FG% never justified the amount of shots he took. Every time he touched it....I knew it was going up like Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson. Yes...for the young ones google Vinnie Johnson. The difference is Elmore didn't put up Vinnie numbers. Plus, as we know, Elmore was undersized playing the 3.
Elmore was 9th on the team in usage rate. Of rotation players, only Sheldon used fewer possessions. Per 100 possessions, he was 7th in FGA. Also 7th in per 40 FGA.

Enjoyed having him in Athens, always played hard and brought some toughness but we just didn't see the improvement that we all hoped for. It happens, wish him the best of luck.

I'll be very curious to see where he lands, could see him staying in the MAC. Kent would be my first guess.
Cleveland State or Youngatown State. Mark it.

Yupp, could definitely see him land at either one. Personally, I'd stay in Athens but maybe he doesn't have a choice.

Cleveland State is better than we are. Not sure why he'd be more valuable to them than us.

I only say Cleveland State because he's from Brush not far from there. As for YSU, they are up-and-coming as well and I think he'd have a chance to play there. Who knows, it could be a Kent or Akron. If it's Akron I will never forgive him!!!

I'm pretty sure Toledo offered him out of HS and has had a history of grabbing MAC players out of the portal the past few years.

I also wouldn't rule out Miami with his HS teammate Antoine Woolfolk being on the team.

I'm sad to see him go but I understand his decision.

I called him as the most likely departure in the "Breaking down the disappointment" thread. Once he stepped away from the team the writing was on the wall.

We might have others leave, but we might not. Doubt Boals will force/push any of them. He asks them to buy into the team and university for 4 years (or however much eligibility they have left) when he brings them in. You can't ask that of them and then not return the courtesy of being dedicated to them as well. If they leave it'll be their decision (Nicol, Sheldon etc)

This opens up that scholly for our starting big in the portal we need.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and somebody definitely will) but I think technically we have 2 open scholarships. Isn't next year the year it extends to 15?

There will be a total roster limit of 15 and the scholarship becomes an equivalency scholarship. So I think for us that means there is one spot available with Elmore leaving because Chase Boals and Ben Estis contribute to the limit. This may mean Ben Estis has a free ride now???

Ah, I see. So basically it means that walk-ons are kinda screwed?

So, how many open schollies do we have -- 1 or 2?

The interest in multiple positions is making it all the more tough to follow.

A child of an alumni gets in-state tuition. I know from experience that getting a free ride on strong test scores is not a high bar at Ohio. Estis could have a free ride on academic performance alone.

So this essentially means they're treating it like baseball now, is how I'm reading this. You'll now be able to offer partial scholarships, if wanted or needed.

It's 2025 and yes Boals can tell guys on scholarship to leave and I'm sure he has since he's been here. If he's not, Boals is doing the program a disservice.

I have said it several times here....in the Portal/NIL era, coaches now have to treat scholarships as one-year contracts. If not, coaches won't last very long. Programs can now go from worst to first by reshaping their entire roster through the portal. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

Not sure we should assume that even though we can go to 15 scholarships that the University will provide it. Or will/has the MAC as a conference come to a policy on this? I know SEC Football agreed for all their members to stay at 85 scholarships for 2025 despite being allowed to go to 105 in football.

And if I am not mistaken, title IX considerations still exist, where if they do add more scholarships for football and men's basketball, they will have to find spots to add women's scholarships 1 for 1.

Basically it means that you don't necessarily have walk-ons because you can give everyone money now. Say you committed a full commitment to 11 players and have 2 left. You could split that up. OR your institution is free to add more money to the till and give all 15 a scholarship

Yes, beginning in 2025, every sport will be like baseball, with the exception of the fact you can pay them all a scholarship if your institution wants to commit that revenue.

I dont get the point of making basketball scholarships equivalency if the scholarship limit is equal to the roster limit.

Because you don’t have to give the full roster a full ride. You can fund at current levels and now break it up. Where you could t before. Most will used equivalent formula.
